Wartales is a top down, real time strategy game set in the Medieval times. In the game, you can customize your character however you want, from their looks, to their skills. You get to build the character you want from the ground up and immerse yourself in the world of Wartales. In this guide, we will show you how to build the best Ranger build, one where you can be fast, efficient, and deadly in the battlefield. If you are interested in becoming a Ranger, then read on to find out how you can create the best Ranger you can.
Ranger Best Build Guide – Wartales
When building your character, you have to play to their strengths. The Ranger is sort of an assassin (which makes sense because you will need to use the Assassin secret class), you must be quick and deadly when dealing with enemies.
You must be moving at all times to avoid fighting with an actual soldier, as they are much stronger than you. First off, we will start with the skills you need to be aware of to become a Ranger.
- Valorous Victory – Every time this unit kills an enemy, you gain 1 Valor Point.
- Right Between the Eyes – Inflicts 60 – 80 damage and applies Bleeding. If the target is already bleeding, the damage is doubled.
- Smoke Screen – Forces enemies engaged in the area to disengage. They incur an attack of opportunity from their opponents.
- Explosive Gas – Targets a specific area. Doubles the Poisons of all units in the area at the start of the next turn.
- Poisoned Weapon – Every time this unit attacks from behind, they apply 2 Poisons.
- Poison Vial – Applies 3 Poisons to all units in the area.
- Low Blow – Applies Blackout to all enemies in the area.
- Deadly Contract – At the start of each round, applies Fragility to the closest enemy for 1 round.
- Ordeal – Every time a unit attacks a bleeding or burning poisoned unit, the attack also applies 1 Fever.
- Retreat – Disengages at the end of their turn.
- Frenzy – Deals 31 – 40 damage to the target. Ambush performs 2 additional attacks.
- Knife Throw – After using a skill, deals 22 damage to the closest enemy within 4 meters.
- Cold Blooded – Damage of attacks from behind increased by 20%.
These are the skills you will have the option to use when building your character. Now, the best skills are ones that cater to your playstyle. But in order to make use of those skills, your playstyle must adapt to the skills you are restricted to.
For gear, the Ranger works best when equipped with Light Armor. Not only is it appropriate for your character, but it has great stats for Movement, Critical Hit, and great Armor for Rogue. With the Movement stat now doubled, you can move around enemies and get behind them to get bonuses when attacking.
If you want to have a good gear build for your Ranger, then seek out these items. Remember that you can mix and match these items however you want:
- Ringleader’s Dagger – A short blade, practical and sharp. Highly sought after by bandits.
- Dexterity +64
- Critical Hit +10%
- Devious Whirlwind Skill – Deals 70 damage to all the units in the area. If this attack hits several units, creates a Cloud of Poison under each of them.
- Harag Poniard – The artisan engraved the silhouette of a wolf in the dagger.
- Dexterity +33
- Critical Hit +10%
- Slaughter Skill – Deals 50 – 63 damage to the target and gains 3 Rage.
- Whetstone – Popular amongst barbers and warriors alike, this simple stoneware item is an invaluable companion.
- Outlaw’s Valuable Tunic – This tunic was sewn by a tailor, which is rare for a brigand’s attire.
- Movement +2
- Critical Hit +8%
- Armor +96
- Dexterity +2
Moving on to Profession, which is the last bit of our little guide here. Here, you will be able to select a sort of ability that your character can do. Like picking locks and cooking food. Here are the Professions you can select:
- Thief
- Can steal items and pick locks.
- Reduces the amount of Suspicion gained from all sources.
- No longer gets caught when discovered stealing.
- Cook
- Can learn recipes and prepare meals at the camp Cooking Pot.
- Tinkerer
- Can learn recipes and craft and enhance Camping Gear at the Camp Workshop.
- Angler
- Can fish in Fishing Huts.
- Scholar
- Can decipher codices and piece together Antiquities at the Camp Lectern.
- Alchemist
- Can learn recipes and brew concoctions at the Village Apothecary Table.
- Blacksmith
- Can learn blueprints and forge items in a Village Forge.
- Miner

Out of all of the Professions you can choose, the Thief makes the most sense. The other Professions don’t scream “Ranger” or “Assassin”.
