God of War Ragnarok’s world is changed as you progress through the story. Whether it’s intentional or not, doing certain things can lead to changes. Just like in 2018’s God of War, doing things in that game can cause the world to change and open new routes for you. In God of War Ragnarok, this also happens as well. In the quest, Return of the River, you will need to bring back the river in order to access parts of the realm that are otherwise inaccessible. In this guide, we help you complete the quest fast.
God Of War Ragnarok – Return of the River Guide
When you approach the dam in The Jungle in Vanaheim, you will automatically start the quest.
Your first objective is to ascend the dam. Follow the objective marker on your compass to go to ascend. However, when you reach the objective marker, you find that the lift that will take you up the dam is blocked by the local wildlife.
To get past this, you will need Freya to shoot her arrow into the plants and have Kratos use his Blades of Chaos to blow up the arrow to free the entrance. After that, take the lift up.
Once up on the dam, there will be some enemies waiting around. Deal with them before you can continue.
After dealing with the enemies, you will have to find a way to get to the other side of the dam, as there is no way to get the water flowing on the side you are on. Behind some boxes and crates, there is something glowing. Destroy them and you will see a crack on the wall. Use your Draupnir Spear to blow a hole to access the other side of the dam. There will be some enemies, so be prepared.
After dealing with the enemies, you will see have to operate the wheel to get the water flowing. Unfortunately, the plant life is preventing that from happening.
You will need to use Freya’s arrows and Kratos’ Blades of Chaos to deal with them. The left plant life is easy to get rid of. It’s the right plants that are hard to reach.
To unjam the wheel, you need to have one arrow on the plant to detonate it, then hit it two more times to expand the blast radius.
Then put one arrow at the bottom of the first arrow, then hit it again with two arrows. The last arrow needs to be near Kratos, so he can hit it with his Blades of Chaos to blow it up. Once you have something that looks like the image above, then you can blow it up and free the wheel.
After freeing the water, go back to where you entered and you will see the water flowing back to become a river, letting you access more of the area. This also completes the Return of the River quest.
