While there are plenty of budget laptops available on the market, not all of them are equipped with balanced features without compromising on anything. But what we often do is pick the wrong laptop in a hurry and then curse ourselves. Hence, you should always buy any laptop with patience and if you don’t find your desired one, just wait for the new one to launch.
But patience is something that is quite rare in everyone’s daily life. So instead of letting you do the hard work, I have found the perfect laptop with very well-balanced features that offer outstanding performance at a budget price. If you still haven’t guessed the name, it is ASUS Vivobook F510UA. With the latest i5 8th generation processor, 8GB RAM, 1TB HDD, and solid performance, it is one of the best budget laptops out there.

Design & Display
If you are the kind of person who prefers a laptop with solid aesthetics and attractive looks, trust me, you won’t be disappointed. The laptop sports a very sleek design that can slide smoothly through your bag. It measures 20.3 mm in height, 360.7 mm in width, and 243.8 mm deep. To help you easily carry it anywhere you go, it weighs just 1.68 kg, which makes it one of the lightest laptops out there.
While it all seems too good for a laptop on a budget, the point where ASUS has cut down on its cost is the material it used to build the body. Instead of a metallic build, ASUS has cut its entire body from plastic. But the laptop won’t feel cheap; rather, it gives an aluminum-like finished construction with a shiny coating over the top.
Overall, the ASUS Vivobook F510UA has a slim design that looks cool on your table. And if you have been a fan of the Apple Macbook, it will give you the same look and feel (except for the build).
Talking about the display, ASUS has come up with a full HD (1920 x 1080) IPS display here that offers crisp and clear picture quality with vibrant colors and nice viewing angles. It sports a 15.6” screen size, which is the standard size for laptops. Thanks to its bright display and IPS technology, the laptop serves its purpose well for both entertainment lovers and gamers.
Performance
The ASUS Vivobook F510UA comes with an Intel Core i5 8250U processor and integrated Intel UHD graphics. It is a 4 Cores and 8 Threads processor with a base frequency of 1.6GHz which can be boosted up to 3.4GHz. Though no dedicated graphics card, you won’t even need it if you aren’t going for something heavy.
Obviously, this laptop isn’t built for playing AAA titles, but rather suits the best for office employees and students. Even content creators can do their editing part on this laptop quite well. But I won’t recommend playing games that are too hot to handle.
Performance-wise, the ASUS Vivobook F510UA has an 8th-generation processor and so you don’t have to worry about its performance while carrying out multiple tasks at once. To boost performance, it is paired with 8GB of DDR4 RAM, which is more than required for a system of this much power.
As I said, its gaming capabilities are restricted. You won’t get a good experience while running graphics-hungry games, but you can get away with basic and older games that aren’t too demanding. Hence, if you are buying solely for playing games, it won’t do justice. Apart from that, this laptop can handle everything pretty well.
Storage
The only part where I felt disappointed with this laptop was its storage department. Though it is equipped with a 1TB HDD, which is actually a lot of space to store anything you want, I felt that an SSD would have made this laptop a complete killer at this price. A solid processor paired with 8GB of RAM and a faster SSD could have made this laptop one of the finest in this segment. Unfortunately, that didn’t happen.
At one point, even if I accept the fact that it has a 1TB HDD, another disappointment is the use of a 5400 RPM disk drive, which is too slow compared to the modern 7200 RPM hard disks. So I felt that ASUS did a little blunder here. But again, to compensate for that, it comes with an M.2 slot next to the hard drive. In case you feel, the laptop isn’t fast enough, just install the M.2 SSD and enjoy its blazingly fast performance.
Battery Backup
Every person’s opinion may vary here as not everyone has the same purpose for buying a laptop. Some need it for basic work, while some need it for multi-tasking and intense work. The ASUS Vivobook F510UA has a decent battery life and would provide you with around 5-6 hrs on a single charge. Though I won’t say it is very good, it is still better than average.
Needless to say, the average battery life of a laptop depends on how intensely you are using it. For office employees who just want to run MS Office or surf the internet, you might get more than the average. But for video editors and movie lovers, you might get lower than that. Hence, there is no defined amount but a basic overview of the average battery life you will get on this laptop, i.e., 5-6 hrs.
Connectivity
The ASUS Vivobook F510UA has a decent number of ports available. Since the laptop has a very thin design, the optical drive has been dropped. But I bet you won’t need it at a time when pen drives are widely available. Connectivity options include two USB 2.0 ports, one USB 3.0 port, one USB 3.1 port (Type-C), a 3.5mm audio and mic jack, an SD card reader, and an HD webcam. Apart from that, the laptop is also equipped with built-in Wi-Fi 5 and Bluetooth v4.2.
Is ASUS Vivobook F510UA Worth Buying In 2022?
The ASUS Vivobook F510UA is definitely worth buying if you are ok with its average battery life. It is one of the cheapest 15” laptops and offers solid performance, thanks to the latest Intel i5 8th generation processor. Its sleek and thin design gives you a premium feel while its high-speed RAM and ample storage are well enough to perform multi-tasking and store anything you want. Obviously, I would say that it would have been a great job if ASUS had included an SSD.
That said, it is an affordable laptop with good value for money and is still worth buying in 2022. Just make sure to install an M.2 SSD. A very cost-effective upgrade for it to make it more future-proof.
