Black Myth: Wukong is finally out, and with all the hype it has received over the years, it’s no wonder that players of all skill levels are flocking towards it to see what it’s all about. As an action RPG that kind of borrows elements of the soulslike genre, it is expected to have a bunch of tough boss fights that require some quick reaction times and more. Having said that, here is a quick guide for the Bullguard boss!
Bullguard Boss Weaknesses & How to Beat Guide
The Bullguard is the very first boss that you face after the introductory fight, which we won’t really count as that was a borderline scripted encounter. There isn’t really much to say here, as this fight only serves to teach you how to use the Immobilize ability.
With that said, you still have to fight him normally for a brief moment, and he can easily bop you if you aren’t paying attention. Here is a quick list of what to look out for when you first encounter him:
- When he sticks his weapon into the ground, get ready to dodge to the side as he will charge forward wherever he is currently facing. At the end of the charge, he will also perform an upward slash.
- When he lifts his weapon up, he will perform a downward slam. During this move, he will track your movements, so it is best to run and dodge backwards. After two slams, he will perform a jumping slam at your location.
- When he takes a step back and crouches down, he will charge at you and go for a downward slash at the end if you are a fair distance away.
- His basic attack pattern consists of two horizontal slashes followed by a downward slash. Just dodge to the sides for this one.
It is a fairly straightforward fight with heavily telegraphed moves, so if you are even remotely familiar with games like this, you will breeze though it without an issue. With that said, his weakness is the mere fact that he is very predictable and slow.
Getting the Immobilize Ability
Once the Bullguard reaches around 50% health, he will hit you with an unblockable move that transitions into a brief cutscene. When this happens, you will be introduced to a friendly NPC who teaches you how to use the Immobilize spell.
You will get a tooltip teaching you how to cast it, but in case you are tunnel visioned into the boss itself, the hotkey is R2 + Square for controller players. I believe it will be just the “1” key for keyboard users.
The fight will continue as normal from this point on. Just use Immobilize as soon as you regain control of the game and whack him with a few light attack strings. If you don’t stop, you should be able to take him down before he can do literally anything.
That’s it, really. This is basically just your introduction to the Immobilize spell, which you will likely be exploiting throughout the rest of your playthrough. Get used to abusing this spell and you should be fine for the rest of the chapter.
Once you are past this boss fight, you can now proceed through the early stages of the story and get ready for fights that are significantly more challenging.
