Now that Planet Crafter has been fully released, new players are flocking in to see what all the fuss is about. As such, people are probably going to need some help in figuring out where they should set up their base in this (initially) harsh planet. This guide aims to give you one recommendation that you won’t have any trouble finding!
Best Place to Build Base
If you began your run in the default starting area, then you are going to find yourself on what appears to be a barren desert with a lot of random resources and shipwrecks scattered around.
What you may not know is that this spot, specifically the area where your crashed pod is on, will actually be a lake once you reach the later stages of the game.
Because of this, the immediate starting area is not an ideal spot for building your base. However, you don’t have to look far in order to find a decent location to set up in.
If you turn right upon leaving your pod, you will see a small rock formation that is forming a sort of uneven triangle shape.
Look at the image below to see what it looks like if you are unsure of what we are talking about. Also, take note that this may actually be in a different direction depending on where your pod is located.
This elevated position, as well as most of the flat land right behind the rock formation, will be one of the best places to start building your own base. Just be careful not to build too close to the rock formation to ensure that nothing gets drowned later.
At the start of the game, this spot will just look like a plain old desert with random resource nodes scattered all around. It has a lot of space for you to start constructing all kinds of stuff.
This spot has an added bonus of being close to a cave that has sand falling in front of the entrance. This cave is the ideal location to mine some iridium early, as well as various other resources such as aluminum.
You should be able to see this cave by simply turning to the left once you are behind the rock formation that we have been using as a reference. This is a great spot for ore extractors as you progress further.
