There’s a lot of dinos or rather, creatures, that you can tame and use in ARK: Survival Ascended. Every single one has their own strengths and advantages. However, you’d want to know which ones to prioritize as certain creatures are simply better than the others. In this guide, I’ll show you my top 10 best dinos/creatures for ARK Survival Ascended: The Island. Let’s take a look.
Top 10 Best Dinos
Before we proceed, it’s important to know that this list includes a balance of dinos in terms of viability. So, I won’t be including too much DPS, too much utility, and so on. Moreover, this will be suitable for all stages of the game, and there might be some better dinos for early game.
Moschops
At number 10, we have the Moschops, an often underrated but incredibly versatile farming dino. Found throughout the map, except in snowy regions, the Moschops is a passive and friendly herbivore with automatic harvesting abilities.
When set to wander, it will gather berries and fiber, allowing you to focus on other tasks. Additionally, passive taming a Moschops involves feeding it the food it desires, and as it levels up, it gains bonus ability points, improving resource collection and weight.
Megatherium
Number 9 brings us the Megatherium, an essential creature for taking on the Broodmother and easily clearing the swamp cave. These creatures are abundant in the Redwoods and the snow regions, tamed through knockout and fed berries or honey.
Megatheriums are excellent for harvesting chitin, berries, fiber, wood, meat, and hide. Their unique ability to receive a damage boost after killing insects makes them invaluable for farming high-level flies.
Giga
At number 8, we have the Giga, one of the most terrifying and powerful creatures in the game. Located in the northern regions, the Giga can be tamed through knockout with meat or exceptional kibble. With its high damage output, it’s great for quickly harvesting meat and hide.
Mammoth
Number 7 introduces the Mammoth, perfect for gathering wood and thatch. These creatures are found throughout the snowy areas and tamed via knockout, using berries or superior kibble.
The Mammoth has a 75% weight reduction for wood, making it ideal for solo players and resource gathering. Its primary tusk attack is for thatch, while the stone attack is for gathering wood.
Yutyrannus
At number 6, we have the Yutyrannus, also known as the Woolly Rex. Located in snowy regions, this knockout tame can be fed meat or extraordinary kibble.
The Yutyrannus is famous for its courage roar, which boosts allied dinos’ damage and reduces incoming damage. This makes it a must-have for boss fights.
Rex
The T-Rex takes the number 5 spot as one of the strongest creatures in the game. Found throughout the island, this knockout tame prefers meat or exceptional kibble.
The T-Rex can intimidate most creatures with its roar, reducing their damage output and making it a popular choice for boss fights and meat and hide gathering.
Thylacoleo
Number 4 introduces the Thylacoleo. This knockout tame, fed with cooked meat or extraordinary kibble, can be found roaming and hunting in the trees of Redwoods.
Its unique ability to inflict bleed damage with each bite makes it a formidable foe against strong dinos and even Gigas.
Therizinosaurus
At number 3, we have the Therizinosaurus, also known as the “tickle chicken”, is an all-in-one farming and combat dino. Located all over the map, except in the snow regions, the Therizinosaurus is a knockout tame that prefers berries or extraordinary kibble.
It excels at harvesting various resources, such as wood, thatch, rare mushrooms, raw meat, raw prime meat, raw fish meat, hide, chitin, keratin, leech blood, and organic polymer.
Argentavis
Number 2 brings us the Argentavis, an excellent farming companion found in snowy or northern regions. Tamed through knockout with meat or extraordinary kibble, the Argentavis has a built-in Smithy, making it great for crafting on the go.
It can also heal itself by killing and devouring corpses, making it a versatile choice for resource gathering.
Rhyniognatha
Finally, at number 1, we have the Rhyniognatha, also known as the “flying lobster.” This incredible creature can carry structures, including forges and cliff platforms. It is the only flyer that can swim and attack in water, produce resin as fuel for its abilities, and create resin armor to reduce damage.
The Rhyniognatha is the ultimate resource-gathering and utility creature in ARK Survival Ascended: The Island, with a wide range of abilities, including picking up creatures and structures, as well as a unique arsenal of attacks using resin as ammo. It’s found all over the Redwoods, although it has a very unique taming process.
HOW TO TAME:
- Kill a Rhyniognatha, so it drops a Rhyniognatha Pheromone.
- Transfer the Pheromone to a large dino’s inventory and make it eat it.
- Find a female Rhyniognatha and reduce its health to 10%.
- The female will then impregnate your dino.
- Feed your dino the feeds it requests until your Rhyniognatha is born.
