Unusual Force 4 was recently updated with adjustments to several styles including the Pugilist style, which means it’s time for a new guide! Inspired from the famous yakuza-theme video game Like a Dragon, the styles remind us of some familiar characters and Pugilist is inspired by Goro Majima.

Pugilist can be such a fun style if you’re tired of having to learn a million chain combos. It is perfect for you who wants something different, like literally a metal bat, to beat people up. Let’s go!

Pugilist Style Guide

Wielding a metal bat, Pugilist is a brute style that slams hard most of the time. Pugilist is not a combo style while it still has M1 combo hits. It is different from Fighter and Rusher that have strong chain combos that lock the enemy in place.

As a Pugilist, these are some guidelines to follow like the Bible:

  • Pugilist has a wider and longer hit range. Your metal bat is an extension of your hand, letting you to punish people even if they try to dash out.
  • Pugilist also deals more damage per hit, nearly as much as a Massive style.
  • Pugilist can block-cancel combos. Use this to bait players wth your combo to waste their moves and land more hits.
  • This fighting style is best done with baiting and semi-aggressive. While you do your first slow hit, block-cancel, and then hit again.

Now on the skills:

  • First Skill, Thrust: It is the best skill from Pugilist. This skill costs a lot of heat as much as the Assassin, deals as much damage, as your M1, and can guard break. The heat consumption is due to its long combo potential. (inf. combo removed on new patch)
  • Second Skill, Charged Swing: The second skill is a long swing that can knock your opponent out for a long time. It also deals as much damage as the last swing in M1. Though the long winding might be easily predictable for veteran players.
  • Third Skill, The Essence of Slugger: It is unreliable, which is the best way to describe it. You can’t use block-cancel in this move, it has a short range, and has a wind-up. It’d be a waste of heat.

And that’s for the Unusual Force 4 guide for the Pugilist fighting style. Have fun! If you have questions or concerns, feel free to leave them in the comments section below. Up next, why not check this guide for the Mad Dog as well?
