Cosmoteer Starship Architect & Commander - Beginner's Guide

Cosmoteer Starship Architect & Commander is a build your own space ship and battle monstrous AI ships to see who becomes the winner type of game. Not only do you fly around a large star system, but you also get to fly with friends. You also get to mange your crew to keep the ship running in top shape. But Cosmoteer can be very hard to understand when you first play it. After all, there are a lot of things to manage here. Which is why we have come up with a handy beginner’s guide for you.

Beginner’s Guide – Cosmoteer Starship Architect & Commander

When you first start the game, you have to first pick a mission. You have three choices here:

  • Model-C (Cannon)
  • Model-L (Laser)
  • Model-S (Shields)

Each starting ship has its own strengths and weaknesses. Model-C, for example, can pierce armor much more easily than the other two. You can even cause fires when hitting ships, though the chances of that happening are very rare. They also have very short range, meaning that you must be closer to your target in order to get a good shot, and they require ammo near them.

Model-L, on the other hand, is the opposite of Model-C. Where Model-C lacks in terms of range, Model-L makes up for it, as well as having incredible accuracy. It does not require ammo storage near them, but it does require a renewable energy from the reactor in order to properly function. However, it only can only fire on one block at a time.

The Model-S has the Model-L lasers for weapons, so it has the same strengths and weaknesses of the Model-L. However, it has the Shield Generator that produces a 90 degree shield in front of the ship. This shield can stop any enemy fire as long as it is up.

After selecting your ship, you then have to learn how to properly pilot and take care of a ship. A ship, obviously, requires power. If a part of a ship runs out of power, you will see it when it has the red lightning symbol on top of it. In order to fully get it back online, your crew must bring energy from the reactor to the areas where it is low on energy.

The green glowing squares you see in the areas of the ship that requires power are the energy sources they use. When they run out, that’s when the red lightning comes up. Fixing it is very simple: you just need to have a crew member get energy cores from the reactor and bring it to the rooms to bring back power.

But even with a ship full of energy, it’s not going to matter much if your reactor or cockpit is destroyed. These two are the main parts of the ship that must be protected at all times. Losing both will lead to a game over.

To get more ships on the other hand, there are two ways. One is to take down a ship, but not completely destroy it, and board the ship through an airlock. Once you have your crew in the captured enemy ship, you then have to build a cockpit and reactor and voila, you have your new ship.

One crew member is more than enough to do this process. You don’t need to send a whole team over to the other ship. It is much safer to send one and avoid unnecessary casualties should something happen.
