You can get your skin by trading, purchasing, or luckily looting a skin after leveling up. You can also purchase a case and rely on a Gacha-type method of acquiring a skin. Once you have a skin, though you need to learn the system about it. 

When you first get skin, you will have to understand the Skin Wear Levels or Float Value. The float value starts at 1 and can go all the way down to 0. 1 indicates a perfect, factory new skin with no wear or scars. 

Meanwhile, 0 means that your Skin has a lot of wear, and this can include patterns fading from your skin. This float value will determine the value of your skin in the market, with the skins closer to 1 having more value. 

However, the Skin Wear or Float Value will not change over time. Instead, once you get the skin, you are automatically assigned a float value. You cannot change this and it is permanent, so do not be afraid to use your skin as much as you want. 

When it comes to finding skins with great float values, it all comes down to luck.
