Clover Retribution: Best Light Magic Build Guide

The latest update of Clover Retribution just added the new Light Magic grimoire, potentially changing the current meta because of its highly powerful and fast ticking abilities. If you are one of the lucky few who managed to get it while rolling, then here is a quick guide showing you a build that you can try with this grimoire!

Best Light Magic Build Guide

First of all, for this build, you will want to get as much Intelligence as you can get. This stat will increase your magic damage, and Light takes full advantage of this due to how it heavily relies on spamming rapid hitting attacks.

On top of that, you should also spare some points into Constitution. Not only will this increase your survivability, but this will also give you a lot of extra mana. This is important as Light Magic abilities use a ton of mana, with the first skill already eating up a significant chunk of your reserves.

You can increase these essential stats even more by putting on certain gear pieces. In the next section, we will list down some of the ideal options.

Equipment Choices

For your gear, the main priority is boosting both Constitution and Intelligence. Here are some items that you can try out, which shouldn’t be too hard to grind for if you don’t have them yet:

  • Cloverguard Lieutenant Helm (Head Slot) – This will give you 10 Constitution.
  • Aetherstone Pauldrons (Shoulder Slot) – This increases your Constitution by a whopping 20.
  • Wolf Hunter Bandolier (Chest Slot) – This item will give you 5 Constitution and an additional 10% damage reduction, further increasing your survivability.
  • Azure Diamond Crest Ring (Ring Slot) – Increases your Intelligence by 2 and gives you the Mana Reserves I trait. This essentially gives you a small 25 mana boost, but any bit is helpful so we take those.
  • Crimson Majesty (Back Slot) – This gives you 25 bonus Intelligence and the Fire Resistance I trait. The INT is the important part here, as we don’t have much use for the fire resistance unless fighting somebody who uses that element.
  • Lesser Fire Resistance Amulet (Neck Slot) – Despite the name, the only bonus you actually get from this is 5 bonus Constitution, further increasing our mana reserves and health pool.
  • Gorgon Earrings (Earrings Slot) – Gives you 15 Dexterity and 8 Intelligence. The DEX actually does nothing for this build, but the INT will provide a small damage boost.
  • Drakeheart Battlegarb (Armor Slot) – This provides you with 15 Constitution, 12 Intelligence, 8 Dexterity, and the Dragon’s Blessing trait. The trait lets you use various wishes every minute, and this can be very useful in restoring mana after you have dumped abilities in combat.
  • Stone Guardian Mage Staff (Weapon Slot) – This gives you bonus magic damage and a total of 10 Intelligence and 5 Constitution. These are just nice buffs to have all around.

There are a few adjustments you can make depending on your playstyle. For example, you can use the Devil Hunter’s Attire in the Armor Slot instead, as it will grant you even more stats but without any traits.

You could also opt for the Arcanist’s Furred Mantle as a lower level alternative. This one will give you a decent amount of INT and magic damage, as well as the Mana Reserves 2 trait that will further increase your mana pool.

If you managed to get it during the 4th of July event, the Founding Gentleman’s Coat is a decent alternative due to its huge Constitution boost. This will give you more survivability and a significantly larger mana pool.

Your Race & Trait Choices

Depending on your luck and whether you are willing to reroll a lot, there are a bunch of options for you to choose from in terms of both race and traits. Here are some examples of races that will be beneficial for this build:

  • High Elf – This legendary rarity race will give you bonus INT and 15% more mana, as well as some extra magic damage. All around a nice choice for a build like this one.
  • Mahari – This is very rare and gives you a huge 25% mana boost, as well as the Adaptive Resistance trait that can help with your survivability.
  • Ryomen – Although it has no magic related bonuses, the extra CON boost is nice, and it has a 20% mana buff as well. This will give you more opportunities to spam your spells. It also comes with a decent healing ability that has a long cooldown.
  • Starborn – Gives 5 INT and CON as well as a decent mana increase. This race is also resistant to magic damage, which might be helpful against some builds.
  • Siphonite – It only gives 5 INT and 10 CON, but the highlight of this race is the 25% bonus mana regen buff that will help with your spell slinging antics.

As for traits, there are going to be some that you may want and some that you should avoid. Here is a list of some notable traits to watch out for:

  • Arcane Zenith (GET) – This one is great as it reduces your mana consumption by 30%. Paired with a huge mana pool and tons of mana regen, this will make it less of a struggle to spam spells.
  • Heavenly Restricted (AVOID) – This trait is mainly for physical fighters and will reduce your mana by 80%, which is a huge no-no for grimoire users, especially for Light Magic enjoyers.
  • Divine Restriction (AVOID) – Same reasoning as Heavenly Restricted. You shouldn’t even be able to get this without the previous one, but it’s worth reminding you as this essentially puts you at zero mana.
  • Monstrous Reserves (GET) – This trait gives you 50% bonus mana and a +10 flat mana regen buff, which are amazing boons to have for a build like this.
  • Mystical Eyes (GET) – This trait, although not as great in terms of sustain, is fantastic for dealing tons of burst damage as it lets you stack up huge numbers with its passive.
  • Nature’s Channeler (GET) – This is an earned trait that is taught by the Mana Master NPC, and it gives you some free passive regeneration.
  • Mana Initiate (GET) – Another trait you can earn from the Mana Master. This grants more regeneration and stacks with Nature’s Channeler.
  • Mystic Savant (GET) – This gives -20% mana consumption, making it a slightly worse but easier to get alternative to Arcane Zenith.
  • Noble (GET) – Gives you 5 Intelligence and 25% bonus mana. Plain and simple stat boost.
  • Scholar or Arcane Adept (KEEP?) – These two are fairly common to get while spinning, and either of them are worth stopping at if you are running dangerously low on rolls. Both are marginally beneficial for this build.
  • Arcane Insight & Arcanist (GET) – Both can be obtained by having more than 60% of your stat points allocated to Intelligence. Both are also really good additions for this build.

And that is pretty much everything you need to know in order to get this build online. Basically just stack up on mana so you can keep blasting enemies with your light spells, which eat up a lot of that tasty blue bar.

While you are here, consider checking out our guide on how demon unions work in Clover Retribution and how to find them. This can further boost your stats and make your spells hit even harder, which would be pretty nuts because of how powerful the grimoire already is overall.
