Payday 3 allows you to navigate through heists the way you want whether it be through stealth, or whether you just start shooting everyone. In all of these cases, you will be dealing with civilians and will need to turn them into hostages. This includes tying them up so they can’t move.

How to Tie Up Civilians in Payday 3
The ability to tie up civilians is not immediately apparent as you need to follow certain steps before you can do it. Here are the steps to follow:
- Go behind a civilian and press the F key for the Take Human Shield Option.
- Press the Shove button indicated by the Q key to throw them to the ground.
- Approach the civilian from behind and you will see the Tie up hands option. Hold F to tie their hands up.

When you’re playing Payday 3, you will often run into civilians and by ordering them down they will crouch down after getting scared. However, most players find that they are unable to tie them up and can only see the option Take Human Shield.
This is exactly what you need to do to start the process of tying them up. If they’re not getting down when you approach them, use the middle mouse button to shout at them and they’ll do exactly that.
Start by pressing F to take them as a human shield. Your character will roughly grab them and you’ll have them in your grasp. When you do so, you will see the option to Shove on the right side of the screen. Press the Q Key to shove them to the ground and your character will do exactly that.
Now that the civilian is on the ground, approach them from behind like you did before. Now you’ll see that another option has appeared which says Tie up hands.
Hold the F key to Tie up hands and when the bar fills up, the civilian will get automatically tied up. Now you can go ahead with whatever you want, whether it is to move them to another room or give them up as a hostage to delay Assault waves.
