Rune Factory 5 Complete Beginners Guide Updated 2022

Rune Factory 5 is a role-playing simulation game that is essentially Harvest Moon but more anime. The reason for that being said is because you will be busy being a farmer 60% of the time, and the other 40% being a JRPG action hero that swings swords with one hand easily. However, there are some things that the game doesn’t tell you early on in the game, things that would have saved you the hassle of finding out later. Here’s a beginners’ guide for those starting Rune Factory 5.

Complete Beginners’ Guide – Rune Factory 5

Crop Planting

When starting the game, you’ll want to plant tomatoes as soon as possible. The reason for that being is because you can earn 540 gold for selling tomatoes, and that’s 540 per tomato by the way. These things are worth a lot early in the game, and having a lot of money at the start helps with finances.

The tomatoes will grow within 7 days, and sometimes you can get 3 tomatoes per crop. The tomatoes also grow the best in Spring and Summer, so if you have the opportunity to grow them during these seasons, do so immediately to reap the rewards. Do not waste your time growing tomatoes in winter, as the conditions are not ideal for tomatoes and you will have terrible tomatoes to sell.

The quality of your crops will determine how much they will sell. To improve the quality of your crops, you will need a Sickle. If you use your hands to harvest, you will get seeds of the same level. You can benefit from using the Sickle, however. Your level 1 seed will be upgraded to level 2. Now, you can use these to plant on your farm to grow higher-quality crops.

If you do have some spare level 2 or higher seeds, you can ship those seeds to the local store. This allows you to buy those seeds instead of having to harvest them.

Make Use of Predictions

If you’re not entirely sure what crops to plant, ask Livia. She can make a prediction of what crops will be the best crops to plant and harvest for 2 weeks. These 2 weeks mean the week you’re currently in and the next week. If a crop is predicted to be a good harvest, then you will get an additional 2 harvests. However, If a crop is predicted to be bad, then the number of crops you can harvest will be decreased by 2.

If you want to find out the quality of your crops and soil, purchase a Magnifying Glass from the shop. This item shows details regarding your crops and soil, like if it’s healthy, ready to harvest, or what level it is.

Magnifying Glass

Another great use for the Magnifying Glass is upgrading. Yes, you can use the Magnifying Glass to upgrade your other equipment like the Hoe or Watering Can. Simply go to your Anvil (which you have to purchase first) and select the equipment you want to upgrade, then choose the Magnifying Glass as the upgrading material.

Rocks and Twigs

In the beginning, you’ll see a lot of rocks and twigs covering your farm. Naturally, your first instinct is to grab all of these and sell them to get some money. However, these are resources you can use in the long run. It’s understandable to sell all of these because you have no use for them now, but they will come in handy later on.

Bread

Bread is a godsend in this game, as it helps give you health. Buying bread from the local bakery will not only give you food, but eating said food will then give you the recipe to make your own. But at least 4 or 5, so you can have some more after eating one to keep in your inventory for future reference.

Bathhouse

After a long day of farming and fighting, your HP and RP will naturally be low. At the end of the day, take advantage of the bathhouse and take a bath. This should be done every day, once a day. The benefits include your HP and RP being completely refilled and it is a free service you can use, so don’t be too stingy.

Combat

Unlike Harvest Moon, Rune Factory 5 includes combat. While you can fight monsters by yourself, you can always ask the villagers to accompany you in your party and fight monsters. Not only will it make combat easier, but your bond with the villagers will grow, and you can even marry one of these villagers.

Difficulty Level

As this is a beginners’ guide, it is worth mentioning that if you find the game too difficult to handle, there’s no shame in changing the difficulty level. Some people just don’t have the time to deal with difficult enemies and simply want to experience the story, so of course, the Easy option is always available. If you want a balanced experience, then Normal is for you. But if you have plenty of time to spend and don’t mind fighting hard enemies, then Hard is for you.

To change the difficulty, simply go to Eliza’s Counter to access the option.

Befriend Monsters

Lastly, Rune Factory 5 has the ability to befriend monsters. The benefit of having monsters is that they can help you in doing farm work around your home. This is especially valuable considering you will be doing loads of work in Rune Factory 5, so having more hands to help will not go unwanted.
