MultiVersus: Complete Beginners Guide

The MultiVersus is a game not a lot of people saw coming in the fighting game genre, but to many, it came as even more of a surprise of how good it was. Featuring multiple characters from multiple shows, the MultiVersus is a neat game to play where the main draw is the characters themselves. With this many characters and more to come in the future, in this MultiVersus complete beginners guide, we’ll show you what you need to know to jump into this game!

The game boasts 16 characters at the start, including characters you can see themselves being in fighting games like Batman or Superman. There are also characters that don’t really fit in a fighting game but they somehow made it so, like Velma and Shaggy from Scooby Doo or Tom and Jerry. These characters have their own move sets, voice lines and fighting styles in the game so you should try testing them all out first to see what suits you.

Classes

When you look at the roster above, you should see that each character has an icon on the upper right. The game divides each character into a class, here are the 5 classes in Multiversus:

• Tank – These characters take a lot of hits before dying.
• Bruiser – They excel in close combat and like to keep it that way in terms of distance.
• Support – These characters usually have abilities that will help or support allies in 2v2 fights.
• Assassin – These characters like to chain combos, the more they chain the higher the chance they’ll kill their enemies.
• Mage / Ranged – These characters excel in ranged combat and should focus on keeping their distance from the enemy with their moves.

Health and Stocks

Each character has health in terms of damage taken. The higher the damage taken the easier it is for the character to die. At the start, each character starts with 0 under their character model, which can quickly rack up every time you get hit.

When you are hit and thrown to the edge of the screen or you fall off the screen it’s a ring out, and you’ll be defeated. Once a character is defeated it loses a stock, reducing the stocks of the team. In 1v1s there are 2 stocks per player, while in 2v2s there are 4 stocks for each team. Once you lose all your stocks you lose the game.

Attacks and Special Attacks

Each character has different attacks and specials, too many to list and too many for beginners. All you need to know is that each character has a normal attack, which you do to make consistent damage to the enemy. The higher the damage on the enemy, the higher their knockback is, the means the higher the potential for a ring out.

Each character also has attacks that you can charge as well as different special attacks, so experiment on the character you’re using and utilize all of them.

Movement

Movement in platform fighting games is just as important as attacks. Unlike other platform fighting games though, Multiversus doesn’t have dedicated blocks or counters, some characters may have this but not all. So, the best way to defend yourself is to not get hit!

Know your character’s movements. Each character has two different jumps, two air dodges and two air specials. Each character also has a stamina bar, so keep an eye on that. This is so people don’t just spam dodges.

Perks

This is something that makes MultiVersus stand out from the other platform fighter games. When you choose a character, you can choose what perk they get! This can range from bonus damage to lower cooldowns and you even get a bigger bonus if your partner picks the same perk! So, experiment on the perks for each character and see what’s best with which character.
