Due to its nature, the complete system for progression in Dark and Darker can feel a bit hard to grasp even for intermediate players. There are things some players simply ignore since the game does a poor job of presenting certain features. For example, the game never tells you just how important quests and the Traders Guild are. But well, that’s what guides like ours are for. We’ll tell you everything you need to know to keep progressing in Dark and Darker!

Complete Progression Guide For Intermediate Players | Dark and Darker

Use the Quest Log

Quest Log

One of the main things that beginner players tend to ignore is the Quest Log. This handy tool is accessible at all times from the lobby menu and is absolutely vital for progression in Dark and Darker as an intermediate player. It allows you to accept and complete a variety of quests given out by the various merchants.

The quests vary in their objectives, but mostly just require you to kill certain enemies or collect certain items. You can turn them in from the same Quest Log interface once you’ve met the requirements.

Merchant with expanded inventory

Completing these quests won’t just earn you various items and Gold as a reward, either. They’ll also increase your reputation with the merchants, which expands their inventory to include better items. This makes it easier for you to purchase gear, utility items, materials, and more. It’s especially great for bouncing back from losing your gear in the dungeons!

In short, ingratiate yourself with the merchants by completing quests and you’ll be able to purchase even better loot.

Expand Your Stash

Expanding the Stash

As you reach an intermediate level in Dark and Dungeon, you’ll start having space trouble. Your default Stash is simply not big enough to hold all of the loot and Gold you’ll get while exploring the dungeons! So, you’ll want to expand the Stash as soon as possible.

You can purchase Stash expansions by simply clicking on the “+” sign in the Stash interface. Of course, you’ll also need to pay a fee in Gold. This starts off at 1500 Gold for the first expansion but increases exponentially for every extra expansion after that. It’s pretty expensive, so don’t buy more than you really need.

If you need more Gold, you can try farming rare and expensive materials like Gold Ore.

Either way, having a bigger Stash is crucial for intermediate players. Especially if you play classes with lots of varied potential builds, such as the Warlock. However, you shouldn’t need to change your build too much if you use our best Warlock build!

Welcome to the Traders Guild

Traders Guild interface

Once you reach Level 20 with your character, you can finally join the Trading Guild for a meager initiation fee of 25 Gold. This gives you access to a player-driven Marketplace. It lets you purchase specific items that have specific stats, which is fantastic when you’re trying to go for a certain build. For example, looking for Movement Speed increases for the best Barbarian build.

Marketplace

If you’ve purchased the Legendary status, you can also list your own items for sale if you wish. You can get a lot more Gold via selling in the Traders Guild than you can by selling to merchants. It’s a great way to turn useless loot into Gold!

Ultimately, just make sure to join the Traders Guild as soon as you hit Level 20 and make good use of its marketplace for progression. If you still need to level up a bit more to reach 20, check out our leveling guide!

Become a High Roller

High Rollers Dungeons | Dark and Darker: Complete Progression Guide For Intermediate Players

While it’s not truly necessary for all intermediate players in Dark and Darker, the final part of the complete progression experience is to start doing High Rollers dungeon runs. These dungeons are exclusive to players who have the Legendary status, and they also have an upfront fee of 100 Gold.

What sets these High Roller dungeons apart is the quality of the loot within. You’ll find much rarer gear, better treasures, and more Gold. On the other hand, you’ll also have to deal with tougher foes, including the powerful Nightmare variants. It’s high risk, but also high reward.

Starting out in these treacherous dungeons can be extremely tough for intermediate players, but it’s a good step in the progression towards being a complete veteran of Dark and Darker. If you truly want the best loot and lots of Gold, you will need to get used to the higher challenge presented by the High Rollers mode.

Nonetheless, there you have it, that’s all you need to know to progress in Dark and Darker once you’re past the beginner stages. Make good use of our advice here to work towards even better loot and riches!
