Black Myth: Wukong – Guangzhi Boss Weaknesses & How to Beat Guide

It’s not that hard, but you’re probably still pretty new to the game!

There are many bosses, both required and optional, that you will face in the highly anticipated Black Myth: Wukong. Whether you are an experienced gamer or somebody who is completely new to the action RPG genre (no, this isn’t really a soulslike), there will be a few roadblocks that will catch you off guard with its slight difficulty spike. The Guangzhi boss is one such foe, so here is a quick guide on how to beat it!

Guangzhi Boss Weaknesses & How to Beat Guide

Before we begin, if you did manage to stumble into this optional boss somehow, I highly recommend checking out our article on how to find the three bells and access the secret Ancient Guanyin Temple area.

This boss is actually something that you will encounter if you are searching for that secret area, so you may as well read up on how to complete this optional bit of content for some free rewards at the end.

Now that that’s out of the way, the boss itself is considered by some to be quite challenging. By now, though, you should have the Immobilize spell already. This will make the fight easier, but only by a bit.

Learning His Patterns

Guangzhi has a lot of annoyingly fast attack strings, but once you get used to them, it will only be a matter of dodging at the right time and also being patient. Here are is a brief summary of moves to watch out for:

  • At the start, he will take a second to charge up before running towards you and doing some spinning slashes capped off with a lunging downward slash. Dodge backwards to avoid the spins.
    • Once you see him floating in the air, get ready to dodge towards him as he will come crashing down at your location.
  • When Guangzhi does a single aerial cartwheel, he might follow this up with a spinning attack that will rush to your location. Dodge sideways as he will continue to spin like a top in that direction.
  • When he crouches down and starts twirling his weapon slowly, he is preparing a lunging attack. Prepare to dodge sideways as soon as he stops twirling his weapon.
    • He will follow this up with another lunging attack. Immediately dodge to the side a second after the first.
  • He will occasionally spin backwards to gain some distance away from you. When he does this, prepare to dodge sideways as he will throw his weapon at you like a boomerang.
  • Occasionally, he will also slam the ground, essentially sticking his weapon into the dirt. Simply dodge away from this.
    • He will follow this up immediately with multiple slams, so make sure you have enough stamina for several dodges!
  • Once he reaches a relatively low health (around 1/3, maybe even lower), he will start spinning backwards like a wheel and eventually launch himself high in the air. After a very brief moment, he will charge downwards diagonally. Either dodge to the side or towards him to avoid the impact zone.

General Advice

Fighting Guangzhi is really just a matter of good timing. As long as you pay close attention to whatever he’s doing, you should be able to dodge before his hits can land on you. At worst, he’ll catch you with a surprise ranged attack as it is a very sudden move.

The main tip for this entire fight is to maintain your distance. At such a low level, your best bet is to chip away at his health rather than going for large combos.

Wait for him to attack and then start slapping him with light attacks while he is still recovering from his previous move. After a few hits, sprint away and prepare to dodge his next move.

If you have it unlocked, Pillar stance will actually come in clutch for his fight as it can be used to avoid a lot of his attacks. It isn’t a foolproof method of dodging, but it is definitely a viable option that you can use to quickly follow up with a free hit.

Aside from all that, the Immobilize spell is always nice to use off cooldown for some free damage. If you find yourself struggling to avoid certain moves, you might want to save the spell for those attacks, whatever they may be.

Black Myth Wukong player receiving the Red Tides ability

After you have defeated Guangzhi, you will be able to claim the Red Tides spell by picking his weapon up off the ground. This will allow you to transform into a wolf guai, essentially becoming a smaller version of the boss you just beat.

As to what that is good for, that’s a topic for another day. Feel free to experiment with it and see if it will mesh with your playstyle. There are several more transformations to collect throughout the game, so keep on exploring!

That is pretty much everything you need to know in order to beat this optional boss, and hopefully you can get it in just one try! While you are here, check out our guide on how to beat the Lingxuzi boss in Black Myth: Wukong as well, since Red Tides will actually be pretty useful for that fight!
