There are a ton of bosses to fight in Black Myth: Wukong, both required and otherwise. All of them are worth beating for one reason or another, and one of the bosses that you will inevitable square off with is the Yellow Wind Sage. In this guide, we’ll try to help you get past this fight by providing you with some tips and tricks!

Yellow Wind Sage Boss Weaknesses & How to Beat Guide

The Yellow Wind Sage is the boss that you’ll be facing soon after the Tiger Vanguard, which feels like a complete walk in the park compared to this guy. If you’re here, then I’m assuming you are getting your rear kicked.

Don’t worry, you’re not the only one. In the following sections, we’ll try to explain his erratic attack patterns and see how we can best avoid or minimize damage from them.

Yellow Wind Sage Attack Patterns

Now, there are some very obvious telegraphs when it comes to the Yellow Wind Sage’s attacks. However, that doesn’t necessarily make them easy to dodge. Here are some of the things you need to watch out for:

  • A lot of his regular swings have a pretty wide reach, and my only bit of advice is to get used to timing your dodges. There is a bit of a rhythm to it, but you’ll need to learn through trial and error.
    • He will sometimes end the string by raising his trident. When this happens, the tip of the trident will glow and on impact, it will form a line of spirit tridents to your current location.
    • There is a variation where he ends the string by jumping in the air and slamming the ground. The slam has a similar effect as the previous variation.
  • From a distance, he may hop to one side and then perform a wide swing as soon as he hops on the opposite leg. This is a very swift movement, so just stay locked in to see it.
    • This is followed by a spinning sweep and a sort of cartwheel attack. After the cartwheel, he will do one last wide sweep all around him.
  • When he stabs the ground with his trident, he will go for a stomp shortly afterwards. Stay away or hit a perfect dodge and land a heavy for some damage.
  • When his leg or trident glows, he is about to slam the ground. This will cause a shockwave that will burst at your location, and you should try your best to dodge to the side before it pops.
    • He does a similar attack when one of his hands starts glowing. Instead of slamming, however, he will stick his hand in the ground and then release a shockwave.
    • He also has a different attack where one of his hands will glow. Basically, he will throw energy at the ground and then stab it to cause a shockwave in a smaller area.
  • Sometimes, he will start howling, which summons a large stone structure from the ground. This will dive towards you, and all you can do is try your best to dodgeright before it lands.
    • During this time, he might be winding up a completely irrelevant attack, so be ready to dodge again immediately after.
  • He can also fire large crescent projectiles from a distance, and you might need to time multiple dodges in a row as he can do this several times in one go.
  • SAND FORM – Finally, he will occasionally turn into sand and fade in and out of the arena. During this period, all you can really do is dodge his onslaught of random attacks. He will be busting out the same moves as above, but you can’t hit back.

Some General Advice

This fight is really difficult, and I might even miss a few attacks of his, but the ones listed above are some of the most significant ones. This is a bit of a wall, and you might want to grind a bit to get some abilities leveled up.

Check out our guide on how to level up fast for a quick and easy EXP farm that you can try out. At this point, you should be able to do some quick one minute runs with that route. Use the extra sparks from this to improve your build.

Some people recommend upgrading A Pluck of Many. This might help if you want to take a slightly more passive approach to the fight, as you can just let your clones do a significant amount of the work.

Aside from that, using a variety of medicines will make a huge difference. If you have some Evil Repelling Medicament and Tiger Subduing Pellets, you should use them for this fight.

We have a guide on how to make potions for this purpose too, just in case you haven’t done Xu Dog’s quest yet. That guide will push you into unlocking the recipe for Evil Repelling Medicament.

Next, craft the best weapon and armor that you can make. By this point in the game, I’m using the Galeguard set because I try to do perfect dodges as much as I can, and it has the best defense stats of my current options.

Choose your spirit wisely too. In my case, my preferred one is the Wandering Wight spirit as it provides a huge defense increase as a passive boost. Any bit of survivability helps in this annoyingly frantic fight.

Finally, patience is the key. I say this a lot, but this is especially true for bosses like this one. Because of how relentless this boss can be, a single mistake can easily mean two sips of your gourd, and that’s with buffs on.

That’s pretty much all of the advice I can give you. Even I struggled a lot with this boss, as he just makes the Tiger Vanguard before him feel like a complete joke in comparison. Just keep at it, and you should be able to beat this boss and reach the next chapter!
