Frostpunk 2 is all about solving problems in your city, and you’ll run into many of these. To help deal with them, you can construct a number of buildings. One such building is the research institute, and you’ll be required to make one for the objectives.
However, seemingly, there is no way to build one in your housing district which has confused a lot of players. Not to worry, we have you covered. In this guide, we’ll show you everything you need to know about completing this objective. Let’s get into it!
How to Build Research Institute
As part of the Scraping the Barrel mission in Frostpunk 2, you’ll be required to build a research institute in the Extraction District. So, the first thing you need to do is to build a Housing District.
Once you’ve built it, you’ll need to actually expand this first. You can do this by clicking the Expand the District button, that is in the bottom right corner of the Housing District menu.
After that, you’ll be required to highlight three areas or spots where you want to expand the district. Select them and press the tick option to confirm the expansion.
Now that the Housing District is expanded, you should select the Construct Buildings option. Here, select the Research Institute and you’ll be able to select a spot to place it.
Drag the Research Institute on the newly expanded Housing District and you’ll be able to place it anywhere there. It should light up green.
Keep in mind that you can only place a Research Institute in your Housing District after it has been expanded. Now you’ll be able to research and help solve further issues you run into!
That’s everything you need to know about building a research institute in Frostpunk 2. Without expansion, you are generally not able to place any building in a housing district. So, if you want to place another building, you’ll be able to use this same method for that as well.
Later on, you’ll be required to find a source of fuel so that you can save the city. Our how to locate a permanent fuel source guide will show you exactly how you can achieve this!
