As you explore the harsh Frostland of Frostpunk 2, you’ll encounter crucial points like the need for Oil Pumps in Chapter 2; where you’ll choose whether to fight the frost or embrace it. The first option will require you to manufacture Oil Pumps to process oil and generate heat. So, in this guide, I’ll show you everything you need to know in constructing Generator Oil Pumps in the Central District, as well as more useful information, which I’m sure you’ll find handy!

How To Construct Generator Oil Pumps in Central District

First, head to the “Buildings” menu, then select “Central.” There, you’ll find the Generator and Oil Pumps.

To build one, you’ll need 200 Workforce, 200 Steel, some Prefabs, and one Core. If you’re unsure about what Cores are, they cannot be manufactured; they can only be obtained by sending Frostland Teams to explore the Frostland.

Now, go ahead and select the building. Place it right in the central area of your city, and there you go—it will start to build!

Drawbacks of Constructing Oil Pumps & How To Manage Them

If you’ve chosen to combat the frost, you’ll need to upgrade New London’s Generator with Oil Pumps. This upgrade enhances the Generator’s efficiency in processing oil to generate heat, but it comes with two drawbacks:

  1. The Generator can only use oil as its fuel source.
  2. Squalor levels will increase.

Squalor Management

To manage the increased Squalor, consider constructing buildings such as the Moss-Filtration Tower in Housing Districts and the Waste Repurposing Facility in Industrial Districts. Both options can be researched under Filtration Towers and Waste Management Facilities in the Resources tab of the Idea Tree.

How to Reduce Squalor

  1. Research and Construct Surplus Injectors.
  2. Activate Surplus Injectors.

Once the oil pumps are operational, research the next upgrade for the Generator that enables Surplus Injectors. This upgrade allows the Generator to burn excess oil, increasing output in all districts by up to 15%. Surplus Injectors can be researched under Generator Upgrade II in the Heating tab of the Idea Tree and require 4 Cores to construct.

How to Get More Oil

To acquire more oil, explore the Frostland for Cores, which as mentioned above, cannot be manufactured and must be obtained by sending Frostland Teams out into the environment.

  1. Activate Surplus Injectors.
  2. Reach Heat Surplus.

By activating the Surplus Injectors, you can boost oil output from the Old Dreadnought to New London, helping you achieve a Heat Surplus. This is crucial for meeting heat demands during the incoming whiteout.

Additional Sources of Oil

Other sources of oil in the Frostland include:

  • Directly below the Old Dreadnought.
  • The northern boundary of the Frostland, above the Old Dreadnought.

You can also build Coal Liquefactors to convert coal into oil. These can be researched under the Heating tab of the Idea Tree but be mindful that they also increase squalor, so ensure you have solutions in place.

Manage Your Squalor & Don’t Run Out of Oil!

And that wraps up my guide into constructing and utilizing Oil Pumps in Frostpunk 2. By integrating them into your Central District, you can significantly enhance your Generator’s efficiency and ensure your city has the heat it needs to survive the bitter cold in the 2nd Chapter of the Game: Defeat The Frost! Just make sure to remember my tips on managing the drawbacks.
