Even at the early stages of Dune: Awakening, gathering and crafting resources are essential to your survival and progression. This guide will walk you through the key resources you’ll encounter in the starting areas of Hagga Basin South and Vermillius Gap, focusing on iron, spice, rare components, and more!

Hagga Basin South Resources

Plant Fiber, Granite, and Salvaged Metal

When you first start playing the game, plant fiber, granite, and salvaged metal are the first resources you’ll encounter. These materials are crucial for crafting basic essentials such as simple armor, weapons, and tools needed to progress.

All three of these resources can be found in the early zones and can be gathered by hand or with the use of a Cutteray.

As you advance, you’ll need to upgrade your tools to harvest higher-tier resources more efficiently. Better tools also yield more materials per harvest.

Fuel Cells

Fuel cells are another vital resource in the early stages of the game. They are necessary to power your base’s generators and craft vehicle fuel.

These can be found scattered across the map in both small and large forms. The smaller individual fuel cells can be gathered by hand, while larger fuel cell cubes also require mining with a Cutteray.

Keep an eye out for loot containers in camps, caves, and outposts, as they often contain smaller quantities of fuel cells.

Dew Fields

Dew Fields are a key resource for hydration, particularly in the early game. These flowers can be found scattered across the map, although they are more abundant in some areas than others.

Initially, you can drink from these directly to replenish hydration. However, later in the game, you’ll learn to craft a scythe that allows you to harvest water from these flowers to refill your Hajra Literjon (a portable container for your water).

While you can drink from Dew Fields at any time, the scythe can only be used at night, with the best yield occurring just before dawn.

Blood

Blood is another resource you’ll need to learn to harvest from fallen enemies. Although blood can be consumed for hydration, it reduces your health temporarily, so it’s best to avoid drinking it unless absolutely necessary. More importantly, you can convert blood into water, which is vital for crafting processes.

Copper Ore

Copper Ore in Dune: Awakening

Copper ore is one of the first ores you’ll encounter in Dune Awakening, and it plays a crucial role in your progression. These can be found in Hagga Basin South, where the rocks are marked by blue streaks. Copper can be hand-gathered in small amounts, but to farm it more effectively, you will again need a basic Cutteray.

Components

In addition to basic resources, you’ll also come across various components, which are essential for crafting more advanced items.

Common Components

These can be found by looting enemies and containers and include items such as gun parts, blade parts, and armor plating.

Location-Specific Components

Micro Sandwich Fiber in Dune: Awakening

Certain components can only be found at specific points of interest around the map.

  •  Micro Sandwich Fabric and EMF Generators are often located in caves and are related to specific game areas.
  • Particle Capacitors and Advanced Servoks are typically located in Imperial Testing Stations, also known as Ecology-Labs.
  • Mechanical Parts and Plasteel Microflora Fiber are found in large shipwrecks and smaller crashed ships, primarily in later game zones.

I have a more detailed guide on how to get the Micro Sandwich Fabric that you should check out if you need that in particular!

Vermillius Gap Resources

Iron Ore

Once you move into Vermillius Gap, iron ore becomes a key resource for further progression. These can be found in rocky areas and mountains within the area.

If you’ve completed the “Scrap Metal” quest at Hagga Basin South, you may have received a unique Cutteray as a reward. This is essential as you’ll need a better Cutteray than the one used for copper! If not, you can also craft a Cutteray MK1 with copper ingots as another option.

On a sidenote, you’ll also need water to convert iron ore into ingots, so make sure to ramp up your water production as well.

Holtzman Actuators

In this zone, you want to craft your first personal shield, which adds an extra layer of protection against enemies.

Shields in Dune: Awakening

Look for Holtzman Actuators as these are the main component for said shield. You can get these by looking through loot chests (especially in areas with enemies that use shields and suspenser belts) or by dismantling crashed Ornithopters.

Flour and Spice Sand

These are two valuable resources you’ll need to gather in Vermillius Gap. They can only be found in the open sands. Doing so will come with a significant risk due to the presence of Sandworms, so be careful!

Flour Sand is identified by white, steaming patches on the ground.

Spice Sand in Dune: Awakening

Spice Sand is found near spice flows that occur randomly in the desert, but it is a rare occurrence, especially in Hagga Basin South.

Static Compactor in Dune: Awakening

While Flour and Spice sand can be gathered by hand, it’s much more efficient to use a static compactor! You can unlock it by completing the Second Trial of Aql.

Vibration Meter in Dune Awakening - Starter Resource Guide | Iron, Spice, Rare Components & More

As stated earlier, Sandworms are a real threat when going for these resources. Always be mindful of the meter that appears on the lower part of your screen. It will display a line showing the vibration of the ground whenever one of these worms is nearby. A  good and safe approach is to look for Flour and Spice sand closer to solid ground, where the risk of sandworm attacks is lower. On the bright side, gathering these will be much easier when you unlock the Ornithopter later on in the game!

If you made it to the end of this guide, then congratulations! You now know all of the important starting resources that are key to your early survival and progression in Dune Awakening. Before you go (and maybe read one of our other guides below), please note that this article is based on what the beta test has to offer! Some visuals and mechanics may be subject to change during the official launch of the game. If that happens, we will surely create a more updated version of this guide in the near future.
