In Dune: Awakening, the vast deserts of Arrakis are filled with danger, but none as iconic (or deadly) as the Sandworms, or as the locals call it, the “Shai-Hulud”. These massive creatures are more than just a threat. They’re a core part of the lore of the Fremen, the native people of the planet. One of the most culturally significant items tied to these sandworms is the Crysknife, which is crafted from a Worm’s tooth. This guide will walk you through how to obtain a Worm Tooth and craft your own Crysknife!
How to Get a Worm Tooth
Obtaining a worm tooth in Dune: Awakening isn’t something you’ll do casually. In fact, it requires dying in a very specific and costly way: being devoured by a sandworm.

When a sandworm kills you by swallowing you whole, it’s the only form of death in the game where you lose your entire inventory, all equipped gear, and even your vehicle (if you happen to be riding on one). Because of this, players are strongly encouraged to avoid this outcome unless they’re specifically pursuing a worm tooth.

However, there’s a silver lining. If you are swallowed and die by a Sandworm, a Worm Tooth will appear in your inventory once you respawn. Currently, it is the only available method to acquire this rare item.

Crafting the Crysknife
Once you’ve secured a Worm Tooth, you’re only partway to crafting a Crysknife. You must first complete the Fourth Trial of Aql, which is an in-game milestone that grants you access to the Crysknife schematic.

Once used, players can create an “Unfixed” Crysknife. This is more of a decoration than an actual weapon. Here are the limitations of this item:
- The Unfixed Crysknife breaks after a single use.
- Both the Worm Tooth and the crafted Crysknife are bound to your inventory. They cannot be stored, traded, or transferred.
- The knife has no use for combat, its value lies in its significance to the culture of the Fremen as well as the narrative of the game.
You think this getting the Worm Tooth is worth it in Dune: Awakening? If you have barely enough items and you’re maybe a fan of the series, then I say go ahead. At present, there is no way to craft a permanent or “fixed” version of the Crysknife. However, this could change in future updates. Given the importance of the crysknife in Dune mythology, it’s possible that more advanced crafting options or display features may be introduced later in development. For now, the unfixed version serves as a symbolic reward for those who brave the jaws of Shai-Hulud.
