Total War Warhammer 3: Best Chaos Dwarfs Units to Use

From Regiments of Renown to Raw Firepower – Here’s what makes the Dawi-Zharr a force to be feared!

The Chaos Dwarfs are finally here in Total War: Warhammer III, and they bring a twisted blend of industrial firepower, monstrous might, and some of the best units Creative Assembly has ever designed. From elite artillery to hulking daemon-infused monsters, the Dawi-Zharr don’t mess around. But with so many units in their roster, it can be tricky figuring out which ones are actually worth using. In this guide, I’ll break down the absolute best Chaos Dwarfs units to use, both from the base roster and the criminally underrated Regiments of Renown. I’ve spent weeks with early access putting these units through their paces, and these are the ones I keep coming back to again and again.

Best Chaos Dwarfs Units to Use

Regiments of Renown are unique, elite versions of standard units. A lot of players sleep on them, thinking they’re just reskins with a shiny name. But in the Chaos Dwarf roster, these units go far beyond that. Some are so different they might as well be entirely new units. Let’s take a look:

Blazing Beards of Bazherak (Chaos Dwarf Warriors)

This fiery twist on standard Chaos Dwarf Warriors brings:

  • Fire Attacks – Great vs regeneration.
  • Charge Defense Against All – Stops cav, monsters, and infantry.
  • Frenzy – Extra melee attack and damage, plus immune to psychology.
  • Explosive Grenades – Like Infernal Ironsworn, they toss two devastating short-range blasts.

They’re versatile, look amazing, and pack more punch than their base version.

The Immortals (Infernal Ironsworn)

This unit is a fantastic example of a Regiment of Renown done right:

  • High Melee Attack + Anti-Infantry
  • Massive Charge Bonus
  • Unyielding Assault – Never lose attack over time.
  • Undying Will – Can’t die while above 75% HP and recovers vigor faster.
  • Expert Charge Defense – On a dual-axe unit? Yes please.

They’re elite, tanky, and can grind out even elite infantry without breaking a sweat.

Fun little lore bit I came across: the Ironsworn are basically the Chaos Dwarf version of Slayers. But here’s the twist, their helmets are literally fused to their faces as a mark of shame. Unlike regular Slayers though, if they prove themselves, they can actually redeem themselves, get the helmet removed, and rejoin society, scars and all. It’s grim, it’s metal, and it’s very Chorf.

All in all… maybe Hashut isn’t that bad. I mean, yeah, there’s the whole demonic engineering and rampant slavery thing, but outside of that, he’s got taste.

Granite Guard (Blunderbusses)

Arguably one of the best ranged units in the game:

  • Suppressed Fire – Slows enemies on hit.
  • Dig-In – Extra melee resistance when stationary.
  • Charge Defense vs Large
  • Incredible Missile Damage

They’re devastating at close range and don’t need babysitting. These guys win games. Also, I’ve noticed something cool recently, Blunderbusses actually have a reload animation. It’s a small detail, but it really adds to the feel of the unit. Makes me wonder if we’ll start seeing similar animations return for other gunpowder or crossbow units in the future. The Chaos Dwarfs (or “Chorfs” if you’re feeling spicy) clearly had a ton of love and effort put into them, and honestly? It shows.

Oglah Khan’s Wolfboyz

Chaos Dwarfs don’t have a lot of fast units, but these Wolfboyz cover that weakness:

  • Spears + Bows + Better Stats
  • Vanguard + Fire While Moving
  • Pelt of the Wolf – Slows routing enemies by 75%.
  • Cowardly Despoilers – Bonus damage when flanking.

Not the strongest unit in raw stats, but excellent for skirmishing, chasing, and harassing.

Hashut’s Ravagers (Bull Centaur Renders)

Already top-tier monstrous cav, these Ravagers push it further:

  • Physical Resistance Buff
  • Guardian Aura – Buffs nearby lords/heroes.
  • Revel in Fear – Buffs attack and charge near weak enemies.
  • Throwing Axes – Armor-piercing, shield-busting ranged damage.

Flexible, durable, and offensively terrifying.

Daemon’s Tongue (Iron Daemon)

This one’s just nuts:

  • +2,300 Missile Strength over the regular version.
  • Burnt Effect – Lowers enemy leadership.
  • More Accurate, More Ammo
  • Still a Tank in Melee

In campaign, this can be upgraded with a Dreadquake Mortar. It’s absurd, in the best way.

My Top 5 Best Chaos Dwarfs Units Overall

Now, let’s talk about, what I think, are the absolute best Chaos Dwarf units, including non-RoR picks.

  • #5 – Infernal Ironsworn: Incredible tanky frontline with armor-piercing blasting charges. These guys are your anvil. The explosives alone will wipe out half a unit before combat even begins. They’re not quick killers, but they will never budge.
    • Just keep in mind, if you’re using blasting charge units like Ironsworn, a lot of their value gets wasted if you just throw them into the front. They do best when supporting a front line, ideally Hobgoblins, who bunch up enemy infantry and let you line up the perfect throw. Hobgoblins are expendable. Blasting charges are not.
    • One downside I haven’t seen mentioned much: you can’t throw them into your own units. In my Dwarf campaigns, I used to use Ironbreakers to blast each other clean, one unit swarmed by Greenskins would get cleared by another, and their armor would soak it all. With Chorfs though? Hobgoblins just aren’t tanky enough for that kind of trick, and your elites don’t have the same synergy.
  • #4 – Bale Taurus: The sleeper MVP. It’s mobile, it flies, and it brings breath attacks, terror, and speed to a faction that really needs it. Great for chasing, flanking, or plugging holes in your line.
  • #3 – Bull Centaur Renders (Great Weapons): These are your go-to for anti-large, anti-cav, and holding the flanks. Monstrous cavalry with armor-piercing damage that’ll win almost any duel. Flexible, durable, and very cost-effective.
  • #2 – Dreadquake Mortar: The most powerful artillery in the game? Maybe. The damage is insane. One shot can wipe out an entire unit. On an Iron Daemon? Even better. Blobs beware.
    • From what I’ve seen, the Dreadquake is basically a mini-Doomrocket. It deletes infantry blobs like nothing else. That said, PvP streamers seem less impressed, it’s apparently easy for humans to dodge, whereas Magma Cannons decimate anything on foot and force opponents to build around them. So while Dreadquakes are campaign gods, Magma Cannons might be the PvP meta pick.
  • #1 – Chaos Dwarf Warriors (Blunderbusses): If you only bring one elite unit, make it these. Short range, sure, but what they lack in distance they make up for with absolutely overwhelming damage. I’ve seen them earn 6,000 value in one battle. Best ranged. Best anti-large. Best unit. Period.
