If you’ve been grinding in Grow a Garden lately, then you’ve probably seen the sky turn blood-red, and no, your screen isn’t broken. That’s the brand-new Blood Moon Update, and it’s a game-changer. I was lucky enough to hop on the test servers early, so I’ve had some time to mess around with all the new features, pets, and sneaky farming tricks. Whether you’re a casual player or aiming to hit billions in coins, this guide is your one-stop breakdown of everything new, and how to actually take advantage of it. I’ll go over how the Blood Moon event works, how to trigger it every time, what’s worth buying in the limited-time shop, how to stack those crazy new fruit mutations, and which pets are total must-haves. Let’s dive in and make that blood moon money.

How to Complete Blood Moon Update

The Blood Moon Update introduces a new in-game event that changes how you farm and what you can earn. The Blood Moon event occurs randomly during night cycles, with a 33% chance of activating. When active, the Blood Moon enables access to the Blood Moon Shop, exclusive fruit mutations, and powerful new pets.

Your main goals for completing the update include:

  • Triggering and farming the Blood Moon event
  • Harvesting mutated Bloodlit fruits
  • Buying and using exclusive seeds, pets, and crates
  • Earning billions of coins using new stacking strategies

Let’s break it all down!

Blood Moon Event & How It Works

The Blood Moon is a special limited-time event that has a 33% chance of spawning instead of a regular night event (Lunar Glow Event). It visually replaces the night sky with a glowing red haze, and more importantly, it opens the gates to insane money-making opportunities.

  • 33% chance to trigger during any night cycle
  • Lasts 15 minutes (longer than normal 10-minute nights)
  • Crops can mutate into Bloodlit Fruits (4x sell value!)
  • Unlocks access to the Blood Moon Shop

Tip: While the math says one Blood Moon happens roughly every 3 in-game nights, don’t sit around and wait, I’ll show you how to force it!

How to Guarantee a Blood Moon

Want to spawn a Blood Moon 100% of the time? There are two main ways to trigger the Blood Moon faster:

Server Hop Like a Pro

  1. Check the timer in the middle of your plot: “Next Night Event: X minutes.”
  2. If it’s not a Blood Moon, leave the game.
  3. Go to the public server list (scroll down the Grow a Garden page).
  4. Click “Exclude full servers” and sort by ascending player count.
  5. Join small servers one by one until you find one with an active Blood Moon.

Yes, it’s a grind, but it works. Fastest method if you’re solo.

Better Method: Use Alts

Got multiple devices or accounts? Instead of fighting server queues (some have 15–50 players waiting), try this:

  • Set up alt accounts AFK in different private servers
  • Check back occasionally for a Blood Moon
  • When one hits, join that server with your main account

Boom, no wait, guaranteed Blood Moon.

During the Blood Moon, some of your crops can turn into Bloodlit versions, they’re bright red and very easy to spot.

  • Sell Value: 4x normal coin rate
  • Feed to Owl: Earn Lunar Points
  • Stack Mutations: Combine with Shocked or Zombified fruits for crazy returns
    • Mutation Combo Example: Bloodlit + Zombified + Shocked = Billions in coins per harvest.

You can also get Bloodlit fruits outside the Blood Moon using Night Staff or the Blood Owl, but it’s less consistent. For more details about money-printing in the update, feel free to check out my guide on how to make billions in the Blood Moon update of Grow a Garden!

Mutation Stacking & Tips

Here’s how the pros are farming billions of coins:

  1. Trigger a Blood Moon or use Night Staff
  2. Plant fruits with known mutation potential
  3. Stack multiple effects:
    • Bloodlit (Blood Moon)
    • Shocked (Lightning events)
    • Zombified (Chicken Jockey or Zombie Farmer)
  4. Harvest mutated crops + use pets to multiply profits

Missed the Chicken Jockey event? Try trading for one, still valuable.

What’s in the Mysterious Crate?

Right now? Cosmetics only. But they’re time-limited and tie into the upcoming Cosmetic Update.

  • Worth collecting if you’ve got spare coins!
  • Unlock after 7 days
  • Could become rare or tradable

Mythical Egg Pets in Shop

The Mythical Egg has a 7% chance to appear in the regular egg shop. When it does, these pets are worth grabbing:

  • Red Fox – Steals 1 seed every 10 minutes
  • Red Giant Ant – +5% chance to duplicate harvest
  • Squirrel – 2.5% chance to not use a seed when planting

All have strong passive abilities, watch for this egg!
