The thing is, while you can gather it by hand, it’s painfully slow, and the risk of getting eaten by a worm? Very real.
That’s why you’ll want to unlock the right tools and find safer spots to farm, which brings us to…
Unlocking the Static Compactor
Before you start collecting piles of Flour Sand like a spice hoarder on a mission, you’ll need a Static Compactor. This tool makes the farming process faster, easier, and more satisfying (not to mention safer).
To unlock it, progress through your Journey and complete the Second Trial. Once you do, you’ll gain access to craft the Static Compactor. I highly recommend building one right away, it’ll save you a ton of time and frustration.
There are multiple versions of the tool:

- Industrial Static Compactor
- Omni Static Compactor
Use whichever one you can get your hands on. Any of them will do the job.
Farming Flour Sand the Easy Way
Let’s talk strategy. Wandering into deep open sands with your Static Compactor is like ringing a dinner bell for the sandworms. That thing is loud. Watch for the sandworm warning icon on your HUD, it’s your cue to either finish up quick or run for your life.
Instead of taking that risk, here’s what I do: Farm on the edge. Look for Flour Sand patches right near rocky terrain or transitional zones at the edge of the open sands. These are perfect sweet spots where you can farm tons of Flour Sand without triggering worm aggro.
Tip: I found a solid location right in Vermilius Gap, where a Flour Sand node spawned on the border of the open sands. With our Static Compactor, I just shot the ground, revealed the piles, and held E to collect. No worm, no panic, just easy farming. In minutes, I had thousands of Flour Sand in my inventory.
You can even repeat this with random nodes that respawn over time. Just scout a bit and you’ll find more in no time.
Alternative Ways to Get Flour Sand

- Buy it from other players at the Exchange (player-controlled auction house). Just be aware: prices fluctuate depending on the seller.
- Trade at social hubs like Arrakeen. Sometimes it’s easier to just negotiate with players directly.
How to Use Flour Sand
So you’ve got your Flour Sand, now what? The main use is refining it into Silicon Blocks, which you’ll need for advanced crafting. Here’s how:
- Small Chemical Refinery
- 5x Flour Sand → 1x Silicon Block
Make sure you’ve got water stocked too, as it’s needed in some refining recipes. With enough sand and water, you can basically print Silicon Blocks like candy.
