Choosing the right pet can go a long way when it comes to playing Rune Slayer.

With all the new pets introduced in recent updates — like the Wyvern and Ice Wolf — it’s about time we take a fresh look at which pets are actually worth your time in Rune Slayer. Some of the older ones just don’t hold up anymore, and there have been a few changes to taming requirements too. This updated tier list focuses only on pets that are currently obtainable and reflects the current meta, especially after the Tundra expansion and level cap increase to 50.

All Pets in Rune Slayer Ranked

This list is based on hundreds of hours of gameplay, personal testing, and what’s currently performing best in the game right now.

The Best Pets in Rune Slayer Tier List

S-Tier – The Best Pets Right Now

These are the top picks. If you can get your hands on one of these, you’re in a good spot.

Shark

Still one of the best pets for water traversal. It’s the only confirmed tameable pet that can swim well. There might be other fish coming in the future, but for now, Shark owns its niche.

Wyvern

Hard to tame, but extremely powerful. Good damage, solid utility, and a high-tier choice overall. One of the strongest beast tamer pets in the game right now.

Sabertooth

While not quite as strong as Wyvern, it’s much easier to tame and still offers great performance. It has a shadow clone-like ability that makes it really fun to use, and it’s definitely a top-tier beast tamer option.

Snow Wolf

A newer pet from the Tundra area and not exclusive to Beast Tamers. It’s kind of like an upgraded Panther. Solid stats and easy to recommend for non-tamers looking for a strong combat companion.

A-Tier – Still Great, Just Not Broken

These pets are reliable and useful, but a step below the very top.

Deer

Might be a personal pick, but Deer remains one of the fastest and most consistent early mounts in the game. It’s a fan favorite and still very viable even as new pets get added.

Coconut Crab

Has around 1.2k HP at level 40 and does decent damage. It’s not rideable, but it makes up for it with raw stats and reliability. Very easy to tame too.

Lobster

A solid all-around pet. Nothing too flashy, but it performs well across the board. Just not quite strong enough to reach S-tier.

Panther

This used to be a Beast Tamer–only pet, but now it’s available to all players. That flexibility alone bumps it into A-tier, even if its stats aren’t as impressive as some others.

Normal Spider

Once considered a top option for non–Beast Tamers, but has since been overshadowed by newer pets. Still useful, just not as dominant anymore.

B-Tier – Okay, but Outclassed

These pets aren’t bad, but they’ve definitely lost their shine with recent updates.

Boar

Used to be a surprisingly good pick, even into the late game, but has dropped off a bit with new level cap and pet additions.

Crocodile

Used to be top-tier for Beast Tamers, but it’s just not that impressive anymore compared to other options.

Adult Spider

Kind of outdated. It doesn’t do anything special that other pets don’t do better now.

Mud Crab

An older pet that still works fine, but it’s clearly outclassed by the Coconut Crab and other tanky options.

Giant Bee

Yes, you can tame this without being a Beast Tamer. It can even grab you and lift you up while flying, which is cool, but overall it’s just average.

C-Tier – Mostly for Collectors

These pets are either outdated, too weak to be useful, or just don’t offer much value.

Beaver

No HP, low combat usefulness. It’s funny and cute, but that’s about it.

Slime

Doesn’t even bring nostalgia value. It’s just not worth using in the current state of the game.

Black Ooze Slime

Slightly better than regular slime in terms of cool factor, but in practice it’s still not a strong pick.

Serpent

Once a fan favorite, it’s now fallen way behind. It just doesn’t keep up in any area.

Wolf

Still okay in the early game, but becomes irrelevant pretty quickly. Not worth using long-term.

Normal Bee

Not rideable and low damage. Really only good for pet collectors.

This updated list reflects what’s currently viable in Rune Slayer and takes the latest patches and expansions into account. Pets like Shark and Wyvern are dominating their categories, while some older favorites like Boar and Wolf have taken a step back. As more pets get added and rebalanced, these rankings could shift again, but for now, this should give you a solid idea of what to aim for. Long story short, if you’re a new or returning player, start with Deer, Panther, or Ice Wolf. If you’re deep into the game and want the best of the best, go after Shark, Wyvern, or Sabertooth!
