With the Global Release of Persona 5: The Phantom X, players in other regions can now enjoy the game – especially Persona fans who were not able to access it. However, this game can be a bit off putting for fans because of the gacha game elements and other systems. Additionally, quite a few players may want to avoid paying real money and still enjoy the game. Both all of these cases, we’ve got you sorted out! In this guide, we’ll go over the best F2P characters to build without having to invest into the game. With that said, let’s get into it!

Best F2P Characters to Build

If you’re feeling like you’re missing out by not getting limited characters in P5X, you do not need to worry. The game is actually very F2P friendly and you can clear most of the content with F2P characters.

Obviously, limited characters will be better, but you can easily make do without them. You can check out our free to play friendly guide for more insights!

The four star characters are also immensely good in the game. As a result, we’ll be looking at these four star characters in this guide. You goal should be to build up these characters with your resources – since resource management is a key part of gacha games.

However, we do recommend that you build whichever character you like – as the most important thing is to have fun.

Unit #1 – Seiji Shiratori (Fleuret)

Fleuret is an excellent single target DPS unit that does a lot of damage and works really well with wind characters. He can apply the Winded debuff with his Skills 1 and 2. This effect decreases the enemy’s DEF, so he ends up doing even more damage.

On top of that, he does a lot of damage with his Skill 3 that can be boosted by Resolve stacks that allow him to do CRIT damage. You can get Resolve stacks pretty easily by doing his other skills.

As a result, he is one of the best DPS units in the game overall that you will also see on premium teams in 1.0. He is easily worth investing and building upon.

Fleuret Persona 5X

Unit #2 – Kiyoshi Kurotani (Key)

Key is a fire debuff unit that is actually one of the only debuffing units in the 1.0 Global Release. He works really well in fire teams, especially with units like Ann.

If you’re planning to do the Beginner Banner or its selector, we strongly suggest that you get him.

Just keep in mind that as the game progresses other debuffing units will get added to the game. Potentially, these units will be better than him – as seen in other regions which could result in him getting power grabbed. But you won’t have to worry about that in a while so he’s still worth getting.

Additionally, he is a niche unit that only serves fire teams. So, if you do not plan on using him in a fire team, he’s not worth building. Additionally, he is weak to wind meaning that he might not work against certain enemies.

But if you do plan to make a fire team with units like Ann, he is a must have unit!

Key Persona 5X

Unit #3 – Motoha Arai (Closer)

Close is a decent option as an AoE electric DPS unit. She basically applies the shock effect and increase allies shock damage as well. Additionally, she can also proc a lot of additional and technical attacks her Skill 3 when the enemy is shocked.

In essence, she does the job she’s meant to do.

But the issue is that as the game progresses, better units will be added that will do the job much better than her. Thor is an example of one such unit that will power grab her as an AoE DPS unit.

However, if she’s your only option as an AoE DPS unit or you need an electric unit to clear content in 1.0, she’s definitely worth investing in.

Closer Persona 5X

Unit #4 – Lufei (Cattle)

Lufei is a decent sustain unit with buffing and healing capabilities. He synergizes extremely well with fire teams since he can apply Burn very easily being a fire unit himself with his Skill 1.

Additionally, his skills 2 and 3 offer single target and AoE healing, allowing your teams to stay alive longer. With his Highlight, he can do group healing and also increase all allies ATK by 25.8% which is huge.

Overall, he is a comfy healer pick who we recommend building. Do keep in mind that there are better premium units out there that you could end up getting.

Some his skills also cost a lot of SP, which can be an issue if you’re in prolonged fights.

Cattle Persona 5X

Unit #5 – Yukimi Fujikawa (Yuki)

Yuki is a shield and tank unit who does bless damage and is very suitable for the 1.0 Global release. She does provide a lot of defense buffs to keep your team alive. Additionally, she scales with DEF making her super tanky early on in the game and virtually unkillable.

However, she is a niche unit because not many DPS units scale with DEF in the game. On top of that, she is a single target buffer that targets units.

Yusuke is the only DPS unit that scales with DEF, making her very suitable with Yuki.

Additionally, she will also fall off as the game progresses with better units releasing. She also does not work well in the end game, since you do not really need DEF tank units. But for 1.0, she is definitely worth building on.

Yuki Persona 5X

Unit #6 – Kayo Tomiyama (Okyann)

Okyann is one of the best Navigators in the game because she is the only offensive one in the role. She provides teamwork buffs for ATK, DEF and SP management.

Her passives also inflict debuffs through Elemental Ailments, making her great for fire teams. With such few Navigator options, she is a must have if you want to play offensively.

Okyann Persona 5X

Unit #7 – Miyu Sahara (Puppet)

On the other end, we have Puppet who is the only defensive Navigators in the game. She is very useful for endgame content and will help you feel more confident heading into it. Her abilities can increase DEF and provide shields.

On top of that, she also offers a Knockdown Resistance Shield, which can definitely help you in a pinch. We strongly suggest you invest in her as she’ll be a great comfort pick, especially as you progress.

Puppet Persona 5X

Unit #8 – Shun Kano (Soy)

You get Soy for absolutely free from the main story. He is a great tank that scales with HP and offers buffs – although he can fulfill many roles. With his Skill 2, you can deal damage while also reducing their DEF.

Additionally, he can also taunt enemies with his Skill 3 which also increases all allies’ max HP and heals them. You can use his Highlight to both heal and deal tons of damage.

As a result, you can do a lot with him, especially early on in the game.

Soy Persona 5X

That’s everything you need to know about the best F2P characters to build on in Persona 5: The Phantom X. You should be able to easily make a great team that will allow you to clear most of the content. On top of that, if you manage to get some limited pulls, you can certainly make an unstoppable team. Additionally, you can also expect other F2P units to come later to the game with future patches!
