There are also some useful Settings in General, like Unequip all. This allows you to remove all your accessories.

Pressing M allows you to open your Skill Tree. Keep in mind that each skill requires their respective stats which we looked at before.

Rune Stones

Rune Stones act as waypoints that you can find all around the map. When you go near one, you’ll be notified with your Curse Sense automatically. You can use them to teleport to any runestone you’ve already been to.

Keep in mind that you cannot use them while in combat.

Missions

While playing the game, you will periodically receive Mission Requests when you’re out of combat. Each mission has its own objective with respective rewards, which include XP, money and reputation.

You can choose to accept or reject the missions.

When you accept a Mission, your Curse Sense will automatically activate and display the Missions Objective. Completing the mission awards you with the initial rewards we covered and a Chest.

Keep in mind that dying fails the missions, makes you lose cash and also drops some of your inventory items. So, you must think twice before you accept missions.

Crafting & Reputation

The Blacksmith in Heian is the main NPC you’ll be going to when crafting Outfits and Weapons. But keep in mind that you will need to have unlocked the recipes you’re trying to craft.

You unlock recipes via Drafts found through Mission Chests or Calamities.

Keep in mind that you’ll need Reputation for every recipe, which can be earned through Quests or Missions. You can find Quests from random NPCs. They award a one time reputation for completing their quest.

One quest we recommend is the Fujiwara General Kill quest found in the Oasis as it’s fairly easy. It will allow you to get a lot of good XP and Reputation at once.

Black Flash

When you deal 100 damage in a short time, your screen will get a slight red tint. This is an indicator that you can Black Flash.

As of now, there are only certain moves that you can use to Black Flash, which are the following:

  • Crushing Advance
  • Reinforced Kick
  • Divergent Fist
  • All Ratio Moves

When you Black Flash, you regain a large amount of Cursed Energy and Reverse Curse Technique while dealing bonus damage.

Reverse Curse Technique (RCT)

At times, your screen will start to show rainbow sparks after you’ve dealt a lot of damage and not taken any damage. These sparks indicate that you’ve gone into Eureka.

Eureka is built up by continuously doing damage. Not doing damage will result in you losing the sparks. When you use Black Flash, you gain a large amount of Eureka. Keeping Eureka up for longer results in a higher chance of getting Reverse Curse Technique.

When you get knocked with sparks, hold down the G button for a chance of getting RCT. Upon receiving it, you will be healed to full health.

Keep in mind that you need to do this process twice so you can fully achieve RCT.

Sparks Heian

When you to get your RCT, your character will say some dialogue after which you’ll receive a new RCT bar. Holding down G will actively heal you, consuming Curse Energy (CE) and the RCT bar.

Your CE gain will also be increased the more RCT you have.

Calamities

Calamities are different overworld mini bosses you’ll come across in Heian. There are currently 4 different Calamities in the game. Each of them have their own varying difficulty and drops.

Here is a list of all the Calamities and their locations in Heian:

  • Tengu
    • Location: Tundra
    • Difficulty: Easy
  • Ice Ogre
    • Location: Fujin Mountain
    • Difficulty: Medium
  • Bear Fiend
    • Location: Valley
    • Difficulty: Medium
  • Demon Face
    • Location: Oasis
    • Difficulty: Hard

Calamities are the best source of XP in the entire game.

Tengu Heian

When you enter an area with a Calamity you haven’t slain, you’ll see the prompts shown below. You should make it a priority to slay Calamities as their side effects can be quite detrimental.

As an example, Tengu’s side effect causes you to shiver, which prevents any action from being made during its duration. This is why we strongly recommend you kill him so you can explore the Tundra properly.

Calamity effects Heian

Keep in mind that certain Calamities will require you to unseal them, like the Demon Face. For Demon Face, you can find his unseal item at any of the Skulls around the Oasis.

Cursed Techniques (CT)

Cursed Techniques are obtained from Trainers found all around the map. To obtain the CT after finding its Trainer, you must fulfill the following requirements:

  • Must be Grade 2
  • Should not have a CT already
  • Complete the given task.

Take note that you cannot reset your CT after obtaining one. You must Wipe to change it.

After you complete all the tasks, you will be forced to fight the Trainer. Defeating them allows you to learn their skills. Generally, the first move is free and you can learn it immediately.

However, further skills will require skill point investment. Keep in mind that you can only have 10 skills at a time.

Manifests

Manifests are substyles that you can obtain alongside your Curse Technique. Currently, there are only two Manifests in Heian:

  • Taijutsu
  • Shadow

For both of these Manifests, you must be Grade 2 and have no other Manifest to get them. Keep in mind that you cannot reset your Manifest after obtaining one. You must Wipe to change it.

Maximum Output

Maximum Output can be obtained from the Injured Sorcerer NPC that randomly spawns. When you find him, keep in mind that you will need 80 Cursed Output to talk to him.

If you do fulfill the requirements, you should see the option to give him a warriors end. Selecting the “On your toes, lone warrior” dialogue option begins a fight with the Injured Sorcerer.

Upon his death, you will receive the Boundless Scroll that you can use to unlock the Maximum Output technique.

To use Maximum Output, charge while your CE is max with C. This will boost the damage of your next CT move in a short window, or enhance the move if applicable.

Landing a Black Flash will also grant you the same effect as charging for the Maximum Output.

Bounties & PvP Arena

The Bounty NPC can be found in most villages. On the Bounty Board next to him, you can pick any target you desire. After that, talk to the NPC and he will teleport you near your target.

After teleportation, your target will be temporarily marked in red so that you can easily track them. Make sure you get to them as soon as possible.

Once you kill your target, you’ll be awarded with XP and a chest similarly to completing a mission.

Bounty Board Heian

You can talk to Ryle, the Bounty NPC, to also unlock Arena PvP. To do this, select the second dialogue option and exhaust it until you get the option to make the Binding Vow. Doing so will give you the Duel item.

Use the Duel item to teleport to the PvP Arena.

The Arena is separated into two game modes: Ranked and Casual. In Casual, you do not lose any rank. You can view your Rank in the upper right corner of the screen.

On the left side of your screen, you’ll be able to select your slots and region.

Upon winning a Ranked game, you will gain Rank Points. Each Rank Point you earn is halved into a Rating Point. You can spend your Rating Points by talking to the Associate next to the Bounty NPC.

You can buy a variety of items which includes Titles and Consumables from the store.
