If you’re playing Wuchang: Fallen Feathers and wondering, “Why is everything stomping me into the dirt?” — don’t worry. We’ve all been there. Bosses hit like trucks, enemies swarm like mosquitoes, and your Red Mercury wallet is looking thinner than your parry window. This guide is your fast-track to farming Red Mercury, the stuff you use to level up, upgrade stats, and actually stand a fighting chance. Whether you’re stuck in Chapter 1 or peeking into Chapter 3, we’ve got the best XP loops with zero story spoilers and zero nonsense.
Red Mercury Farming Guide
Red Mercury is Wuchang’s answer to Souls (from Dark Souls) or Runes (Elden Ring). You feed it to the Impetus Repository to level up and unlock new perks.
In the beginning, it feels manageable. Then suddenly? 13,000 for one level. Then 20,000. Then 30K+. If you’re not farming smart, you’ll hit a wall real quick — and it won’t care how cool your outfit looks.
Unlike other Soulslikes, Wuchang is linear. No easy dungeons to cheese. No farm-the-same-knight-for-an-hour tricks. That’s why knowing where to farm early makes a big difference.
Let’s break down the best XP loops across Chapters 1 to 3 — starting with the shrine you probably already unlocked.

FARM #1 — Light Zen Temple Shrine Loop (Chapter 1)
Red Mercury per hour: ~20,000
Location: Near the Dutonga boss area
Why It Works: This spot is packed with weak enemies, easy flame pots, and early access. If you’ve got Echo of Dutonga or fire spells? Even better — early-game magic is busted.
The Loop
- Start at the Light Zen Temple shrine.
- Turn around:
- Grave Robber (50)
- Fake Monk (110)
- You now have 2x Skyborn Might.
- Go right toward the pot cluster. Let enemies walk into them.
- Roast them with Echo of Dutonga or bait pot explosions.
- Clean up. Repeat.
Tips
- Don’t break the pots before the fight — let your enemies do it (or use them to explode your foes).
- Cash in dropped consumables for bonus Mercury.
This whole run takes under 2 minutes and lets you farm 20k Red Mercury per hour, give or take. Not bad for the first real area.
FARM #2 — Shu Sanctum Shortcut Route (Chapter 2)
Red Mercury per hour: 2,500–3,000 (plus orb drops)
Location: Shu Sanctum + Shortcut Tree
Why It Works: It’s efficient, accessible, and full of weak enemies — plus a few solid orb drops if you’re lucky.
This next farm opens up once you’ve progressed a bit past the Shu Sanctum Shrine — but before you start farming, do yourself a favor and unlock the shortcut tree.
How To Unlock the Shortcut Tree
From the shrine, follow the path forward. You’ll come across a tree you can knock over to create a bridge shortcut. This makes the entire farm route waaaay faster, so don’t skip it. Knock it down, take a moment to appreciate the engineering, then head back to the shrine.
The Route
- From the shrine, run across the shortcut tree.
- Take out the first ranged enemy (200 Red Mercury).
- Go up the stairs, take a right — kill two dogs (40 each).
- Ambush the heavier enemy from behind.
- Behind him is another ranged guy — dodge and punish (400 more total).
- Keep going:
- 2 enemies fighting each other (60 each).
- Then a group of 3–4 scrapping it out just ahead.
Tips
- Some enemies drop Red Mercury orbs worth 600–800 each.
- Don’t forget the invisible bridge shortcut near the glowing green/yellow orb — you can run across it and skip all those ladders.
Once you get the loop down, this run is quick, simple, and gives consistent returns with minimal risk.

FARM #3 — Bandit Cave Shrine Speed Run (Chapter 2–3)
Red Mercury per hour: Insane (for minimal effort)
Loop time: 20–30 seconds
Location: Bandit Cave Shrine
Why It Works: It’s short, simple, and gives a fat payout for almost no work. Great while early-level costs are low.
The Setup
- From the Bandit Cave shrine, drop down.
- Kill the first weak enemy (30 Red Mercury).
- Sneak up behind the big guy and backstab — boom, 480 Red Mercury.
- Run back to the shrine and repeat.
Don’t fall off the nearby cliff. You will die. You will rage.
I farmed this for 30 minutes and gained a ton of levels early on. It slows down later, but it’s perfect while your costs are still low.
Bonus Route (If You’re Feeling Brave)
After killing the big guy, head toward the temple. Go left, then right. You’ll find four enemies that drop 600 each — great way to bump your total.
More Routes – For Those Who Want More
- Mort Grotto Shrine Bridge Sprint (Chapter 2)
- Feathered Militia across the bridge = 470 Red Mercury
- Reset, repeat. That’s 56,000 Red Mercury/hour.
- Mort Grotto Cave Run
- 2 Feathered Miners (220 each)
- Gong enemy summons ~6 enemies = ~2,000 per run
- Great for loot and XP.
- Spooky Tree Tunnel in Mort Grotto (Fire Build Only)
- Big Tree enemy drops 2,000 Red Mercury
- Weak to fire. Burn it down fast.

Chapter 3 — Best Red Mercury Farm in the Game
Aven Marsh Clam Farm (Optional Area)
- Giant clams = 2,750 each
- Weak to lightning (use Thunderstorm or Lightning Temperance)
Route:
- From Refugee Camp, climb down into Aven Marsh.
- Kill the clam behind the shrine (after the poison guys).
- Follow the river to find more clams and enemies.
- Go up the tree trunk → back to shrine → reset.
Estimated rate: 140,000 Red Mercury/hour, not including loot.
Zenmu Anti-Chamber Gazebo Run (Best Spot)
Red Mercury per hour: ~280,000
Enemy: Former boss, now glorified loot bag
Location: Zenmu Anti-Chamber → Rear shortcut
Why It Slaps: The Feathered Palace Maid drops a massive 4,700 Red Mercury. She used to be a boss. Now she’s free real estate.
- From shrine, run right toward the gazebo
- Kill her sleepy backup dancer first
- Then drop the Maid
- Sprint back to shrine and repeat
Ignore the background enemies fighting each other — just sprint back to shrine, reset, repeat.
Estimated rate: 280,000 Red Mercury/hour. Probably the best in the game.
Wrap-Up: Level Up, Stay Mad, Farm Smart
And there you go — the best early-game Red Mercury farming spots in Wuchang: Fallen Feathers. No fluff, no late-game distractions, just efficient XP routes to get you powered up for what’s ahead.
- Farm smarter, not harder
- Always cash in Red Mercury orbs
- Use elemental weaknesses (fire and lightning are OP early)
- Avoid fake “early game” farms that require beating late bosses — lookin’ at you, Cloudspire
Grind smart. Level up. And maybe — just maybe — stop dying to that tree boss. (No promises though.) Still new to the game?
