Ultimate Admiral Dreadnoughts is a ship-building game where you get to design ships from a wide range of eras. From the onset of World War 1 to World War 2 you get to create ships of all shapes and sizes.

You get to choose all of the little details of the ships from what type of auxiliary engine it has to what propulsion your torpedoes run on. You can make the most effective ship there is or a battleship with a thousand torpedo tubes strapped to it.

In this guide, we’ll show you how to design a Battle Cruiser.

Ultimate Admiral Dreadnoughts: How To Build Battlecruisers

Battlecruisers are basically battleships that sacrifice armor for speed. They still have the big guns a battleship has, but are more maneuverable and have greater range than battleships. They can tank shells just don’t expect it to tank the biggest ones.

One of the most famous Battlecruisers is HMS Hood, the pride of the British Navy in World War 2.

  1. To start building a battlecruiser you first need to have a battlecruiser hull, they’re the hulls with the “BC” on the upper right of it.
  2. Then you’ll need to set up some primary and secondary towers as well as some funnels. Be sure to make the Engine Efficiency of the ship as high as possible since the engine is the life of a battle cruiser.
  1. As for the guns, battlecruisers usually have the same guns as a normal battleship. So go for 15 to 17 inches. Don’t forget to add secondary guns like 4-inch guns and 2-inch guns to ward off any destroyer and light cruisers that get too close.
  1. When it comes to armor schemes the battle cruiser sacrifices armor for speed, with a speed of around 35 to 36 knots (this depends on your time period, this is in 1930’s terms, while earlier designs might be slower) you might not have enough displacement for armor anyway.

If you do then just give the weight to more important things like auxiliary engines or bigger shells.

Tips on Design

  • Battlecruisers are often made to be a cheaper alternative to battleships, so if you’ve noticed that your battlecruiser is more expensive than its big brother, maybe go for the big brother instead, or rethink your design.
  • Even though Battlecruisers are on the thin side when it comes to armor, do add some armor just to ward off any shells from destroyers of light cruisers.
  • Protect your Citadels and your Barbettes, we don’t want to reenact the sinking of HMS Hood!
  • If you want to go beyond your normal speed but don’t want to increase your actual speed stat, lower your beam and drought.

Remember that Battlecruisers are best used as solo hunters, or with smaller escorts and are usually fast enough to run away from threats to reengage later.

Of course, there are also other builds out there like Battlecruisers that excel at destroyer cruisers so go ahead and experiment!
