Hogwarts Legacy has mountains of gear and loot that you can obtain. Not just that, but you will eventually unlock the ability to upgrade your gear’s power and traits.
If you wish to enhance your gear and improve your character, this guide is for you.
How to Upgrade Gear Power & Traits

Before you can upgrade your gear, you need to progress the story until you complete “The Room of Requirement” and “The Elf, The Nab-Sack, and the Loom” quests.
Completing these quests will give you access to the Enchanted Loom in your Room of Requirement. On top of that, you’ll also unlock access to the Vivarium which allows you to capture and release beasts onto your Vivarium.
This is useful as you can get various upgrade materials by simply taking care of them.
You’ll want to capture and take care of as many magical beasts as you can so that you get a variety of materials.

To upgrade a piece of gear, approach the Loom and interact with it. Choose the piece of gear you wish to upgrade and you’ll be shown which materials you require and how much the gear will be improved.

To apply Traits instead, choose the “View Traits” option while highlighting your gear. You’ll be shown all available traits for the specific piece of gear and the materials you’ll need.
Note that there are limitations when it comes to applying traits. Gear can only have traits of a certain level applied to them, depending on the rarity of the piece of gear.

For example, you can’t apply Level III Traits on Extraordinary (Purple) gear. You can only apply them on Legendary (Orange) gear.
Traits are primarily obtained by completing combat challenges and clearing enemy camps in the open world.
