Smalland is another open-world survival game to grace the gaming world. It has a similar premise to Grounded, which is another open-world survival game that have you take control of characters that are shrunken down to the size of insects.
However, in Smalland, your characters are already small in size, as they are natives of the land. Since you aren’t controlling humans, you will be surviving with different means.
In this guide, we will be showing you the things you should do when you play Smalland, and things you should avoid when playing Smalland.

Start Off Big
This first part is very important because it affects how you play. When you start the game, you will meet a merchant that will give you your first armor set. You will be offered the Padded and Travelers set.
Choose the Padded set. The reason for this is that the Padded set will keep you warm at all times, as the early game does not offer a lot of ways to keep warm.
The Travelers set isn’t a bad set, but it is not ideal when going out in the early game. Instead, it will make you even colder when you wear it. Avoid the Travelers set for now and use the Padded set as you explore the area when you start.
Home Is Where The Enemies Won’t Attack You
After you get your Padded armor, your next mission should be to find a Great Tree.
Now, usually, you should be out looking for resources and all that, but I say do not do that until you can find a Great Tree. The reason for that is because a Great Tree is the best place to set your base.
The reason for that is that if you set up your base on the ground, anything can attack you at any time. Instead of feeling relaxed and at home, you will instead feel anxious as you expect enemies to drop in and try to destroy your home.
That kind of stress is not worth it, so finding a home on a Great Tree eliminates all of the stress and lets you relax some more.
It’s also a great way to get around the map when you unlock your wings. With the wings unlocked, you will be able to jump off the Great Tree and cover a larger area of the map than just regularly walking around.
Get A Mount As Soon As You Can
Once you have your base set up on a Great Tree, you should then get a mount.
Mounts are incredibly useful, as they help you get around the world at a much faster rate. The best mount that is recommended by the community is the Grasshopper mount.
To get a Grasshopper mount, you will need the Grasshopper Treat item. To get it, you will need:
- 3 Insect Eggs
- 1 Petal
- 2 Seed Oil
Once you have the required materials, head on over to a Cauldron and create the Grasshopper Treat.
With the Grasshopper Treat in your inventory, go outside and look for a Grasshopper. Once you find one, you will need to lower its health to tame the Grasshopper.
So just like Pokémon, attack the Grasshopper until the health is low enough. Make sure you do not kill it, or else you will have to look for another Grasshopper.
Once the health is low enough, approach the Grasshopper and press F to give it the Grasshopper Treat. Congratulations, you now have a mount to help you get around the world easier.
