Horse-riding is a great way to traverse through the big map of The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom. Not to mention that you can customize and upgrade your horses to become your ultimate companion as you go on adventures. Tears of the Kingdom adopt many similar functions from Breath of the Wild when it comes to the horses and stable.
But there are also new things you want to know before getting your first horse. Here’s how you can catch your own horses and register them at the stable!
How To Get Horse In Tears Of The Kingdom
When you first enter the game, you may find a stable near the first region and find it closed. After you’ve unlocked your first memory, however, the stable will become available. You can talk to Lester here to get information about registering and taming your own horse. The stable NPC will also teach you how to tame and registering them to the stable.
There are wild horses that you can find in the field and forests as you explore the map. But they don’t usually spawn around key structures or mountains.
When approaching them, players must pay attention to the noise they’re making and to the horse’s behavior. This sound bar below indicates how much noise you’re making. The louder you are, the more likely you’ll spook them even if you’re crouching.
When a horse is looking around, you also need to stay perfectly still. Approach only when it’s looking down. In an unlucky situation, if they’re grouped up like this, a single horse getting spooked will cause the entire group to run away.
Your best bet is to approach a lone horse.
Once you’re close enough, you’ll see this Mount option becoming available. It’ll be a split second moment before the horse bolts away or kick you with its legs. So you have to react fast to get on top of them and immediately Spam L for Soothe. Having a longer stamina bar will also help with enduring the tantrums as you spam L to tame them.
You know you’ve got it tamed when it has not decided to throw you off its back and even when you get off the horse, you will be able to ride them again without issues.
How To Register Horse Into Stable
Now you can ride this horse back to the Stable. If you’re around Lookout Landing, the closest Stable will be the New Serenne Stable. Head to the location as marked on the map and the coordinates are (-1350, 0735, 0087) or you can head to a nearby Stable from your location.
You’ll find the journey a whole lot faster on a horse. But a new horse, depending on their temperament and bond level, can have weird quirks. They might stop halfway or just get difficult to control. So, keep spamming L whenever they’re acting weird to increase your bond level.
Talk to Sprinn/Stable NPC and then register for a membership with the stable system if you haven’t already. Then pick ‘Register Horse’.
When you want to register a horse, you’ll be shown this interface of the horse stats. They’re similar to the stats you see in Breath of the Wild, but with the addition of Pull stat. And you can currently register up to six horses.
Don’t miss out the Pony Points system which you earn by lodging at the stables (20 Rupees) and registering horses. Points can be exchanged for rewards. For example, at 3 points you get the Towing Harness that you can attach to the horse. At 10 points, you can register an additional horse.
Additionally, you can ride your old horses from the previous game in here! Tears of the Kingdom transfer several files over from Breath of the Wild and they include the horses. They retain their stats and will also have the Pull stat added to them.
And that’s your introduction to the Horse system in this game! Have any question about registering your tamed horse or catching them? Ask away!
