In Tears of the Kingdom, there’s a lot of areas around the map that needs you to keep an eye on the temperature. From going to the top of Mount Lanayru to going into the lava-filled caves of Death Mountain. One quest side quest in particular lets you try out enduring extreme heat in the game and that’s the Heat Endurance Contest.
In this guide we’ll show you how you can complete this side quests and what are your options in dealing with it. Now get ready because it’s going to be quite hot!
Heat Endurance Contest Side Quest Guide
There’s one NPC out there in Tears of the Kingdom that’s willing to make a wager. He wants to bed that he can outlast you in the scorching heat, and that’s the Heat Endurance Contest Side quest!
Here are the steps we’ll be taking to finish this quest:
- Head to Mount Granajh in the middle of Gerudo Desert and the Faron Grasslands.
- Talk to Rahdo to start the quest.
- Endure the heat through using food or equipment that increases heat resistance.
- (Alternative Option) Build a Campfire and wait till Morning.
- Finish the challenge and the Side Quest!

Detailed Walkthrough
Note: You can skip this section if you already have the quest active. For starting the quest you’ll need to head to Mount Granajh, a big mountain in the middle of the Gerudo Desert and Farong Grasslands region. The exact location you’ll want to go is -1379, -3365, 0469.
There you’ll find the NPC called Rahdo and you can talk to him to start the quest. The quest involves you wagering 150 rupees and seeing who lasts in the scorching heat the longest. When the challenge start both of you will stand on pillars without any armor, but the quest will let you keep your weapon and shield.
The challenge lasts 8 minutes and both of you need to stand on top of the pillars. Once the time passes and you’re not dead then you win the challenge!
The area has a high temperature, and you can do a couple of things to combat that. One of the ways you can do this challenge is fuse a sapphire with either your weapon or shield. A weapon or shield with a sapphire will give you heat resistance. You can also equip ice weapons.
Another way is to eat heat resistance food, like cooking up chili peppers. This will let you get a heat resistance buff.
The least efficient way of doing things is to just keep on eating a bunch of food to heal up as you take heat damage. This will take a lot of food but so use this method if you really don’t have any other way.
The last method you can do this challenge is more of an exploit. You can set up a campfire on top of the pillar and just sit and wait till morning. After the waiting animation ends he will automatically lose.
Whatever method you pick, after a while the Rahdo will succumb to the heat. You’ll then win the wager and complete the quest! With that you’ll get double the rupees you wagered!
