When side quests get confusing in games like Diablo IV, you know that the rewards have a good chance of being worth the trouble. That or you just want to clear off as many as you can for that sweet regional renown points.

Now it’s time to reacquaint yourself with the type of side quest that you may or may not be a fan of. That’s right, we’re talking about fetch quests! Going back and forth between places has never been more fun. To keep things interesting and straight to the point, here’s a guide showing you what needs to be done during the Crucible of Worth quest!

Crucible of Worth Guide

To get the ball rolling, you need to talk to Gerti. He’s a blacksmith that you can find in the Kotama Grasslands of the Dry Steppes region. He’s directly south of the Ked Bardu waypoint and will be standing directly in front of an anvil. Start the quest by talking to him using the “Is something wrong?” dialog option.

Here’s a list of things that you will do during the Crucible of Worth quest:

  1. Retrieve the Great Axe of Raekor.
  2. Take the Broken Great Axe of Raekor.
  3. Return the broken axe to Gerti in Ked bardu.
  4. Procure an Oppressor Horn.
  5. Gather three Silver Quartz from the Infected Delve.
  6. Return the materials to Gerti.

Detailed Walkthrough

After talking to Gerti, the next part of your quest will take you to The Scarred Coast to the southwest. The area where the Great Axe is lies within the magical blue circle indicator on your map. This will lead you to the Cliffside of the Horn of Komdor. There are a few cultists guarding the area, and a Succubus will be summoned if you start laying your mitts on the axe as well.

Now you have to return the Broken Great Axe to Gerti back in Ked Bardu. Teleport back to the town and tell him, “I retrieved the great axe. It was damaged by the Triune.” After a bit of dialog he will tell you that the axe can be repaired. However, he will require more materials. The first item will be an Oppressor Horn.

You can get the Oppressor Horn from the northern part of the Khargai Crags east of the Kotama Grasslands.  That would be where the Hapless Frontier is. You can use the Fate’s Retreat waypoint in Chambatar Ridge if you’ve already activated it.

You’ll be taking on some Vile Ones, Plague Maggots, and of course, Oppressors. Do the area a favor and wipe them out to get the Oppressor Horn. No need to go back to Gerti just yet, your next destination will be a dungeon.

Use the Farobru waypoint in Ked Bardu to get closer to the Infected Delve. This is the area where you’ll be gathering three Silver Quarts from. Stick to the northwest side of the Urlaan Quarry and you’ll end up in front of the entrance in no time.

Since the dungeons are random, there’s no telling where the Glittering Ore Veins will pop up. These are rocks you can interact with that have Silver Quartz in them. Do mind the Hornets, Serpents, Maggots, Abominations, and Pestilent Hosts you encounter. They have a reputation for giving intruders a very warm welcome.

Once you have all of the materials on hand, you can go back to Gerti again in Ked bardu. Or you can go out of your way further and clear the dungeon for extra renown. Tell Gerti that, “I have what you need to repair the great axe.” He will repair the axe and give it to you as a reward, finishing the Crucible of Worth side quest!

Here we have Alexis, he's been gaming ever since the second Famicom came out. Which is probably the reason why he goes back to platformers every now and then. Somewhere down the line he started getting more and more fascinated about looking at maps change colors for three to eight hours straight. If he's not out strategizing and beating the life out of his space bar in that order there's a good chance you can find him playing an FPS or talking someone's ear out about how game balance gets in the way of realism. You can tell that he really likes getting the full experience of whatever he gets his hands on.
