Alan Wake 2 features a lot of returning characters from the first game. While not all of them will be there, some of them do make a return, and one of them is none other than Agent Nightingale. If you don’t remember, Nightingale was an unhinged FBI agent that hunted down Alan Wake throughout the first game, only to meet his end by the Dark Presence.
He returns in Alan Wake 2, but something isn’t right about him. In this guide, I’ll show you how you can follow Nightingale’s trail to find out where he is.
Follow Nightingale’s Trail
Upon your second return to Cauldron Lake, where the second chapter of Saga’s story starts, you will have to follow Casey to the crime scene where Nightingale’s body was found.
Along the way, you will be able to talk to Ilmo, but that’s not really important to the objective (it does offer more to the story, though).
When you reach the crime scene, you will be able to look around and find clues to Nightingale’s whereabouts.
You can also speak to Casey (again, not important but does offer information to the story) and learn more about Nightingale.
For the first clue, look at the table where Nightingale was murdered and examine it. You will find the Cult of the Trees symbol, which is the first clue.
A bit further ahead, you will find footprints that you can investigate. You will need to look down and look for the investigation icon to pop up.
Once you investigate the footprints, Saga will start following it to find out where Nightingale is.
Pull out your flashlight (because it’s going to be really dark) and follow the footprints until you reach the flooded area.
You won’t find his footprints anymore, but it does mean that you are going in the right direction.
Go through the water and keep going until you find a notice board that has the Witch’s Ladle on it. This is important to the story, so make sure you remember where this is later on. But once you find it, you will know that you are close to where Nightingale is.
Not far from the notice board, you will find something flickering at the back with a Manuscript page under it, as well as more of Nightingale’s footprints.
Use your Flashlight Boost to burn away the darkness away. Once the darkness is gone, you can then pick up the Manuscript page, which completes the objective.
That’s all you need to know on how to follow Nightingale’s trail in Alan Wake 2. Did this guide help you how to find the missing FBI agent? Let us know in the comments below.
