Alan Wake 2 features a more cultish theme around this time. Both Saga Anderson and Alan Wake find traces of cult activities in their respective worlds, more for Saga but Alan does find them every now and then. When you go into the Subway Tunnels as Alan Wake, you will find that the cult in the Dark Place derailed a train and burned everyone inside by pouring gasoline inside.
It’s a horrible thing, but Alan has to know the details in order to get through the train and continue forward. In this guide, I will show you how you can rewrite the Derailed Train scene.
Rewrite the Derailed Train Scene to Continue on the Cult’s Trail
When in the Derailed Train scene, you will find that there is no way to continue moving forward due to the train blocking the path and the door being shut.
In order to continue, you will need to go into the Writer’s Room and look at the Plot Board. There, you will see the Derailed Train scene on the board.
You will have two choices: Murder Cult or Missing FBI Agent. The Missing FBI Agent will give you more context and story, but the correct choice here is Murder Cult.
Choosing Murder Cult will change the scene around Alan, causing the door on the right to open, allowing you to go inside.
Be careful though, as there are enemies inside the room that you need to enter. One of them will be able to shoot a projectile at you that will make Alan fall backwards, allowing the others to attack.
If you have any Flares or Flashbangs, pop one of those inside the room (preferably a Flashbang) and the enemies will lose their shadow armor and will be stunned, allowing you to attack.
After taking care of the enemies inside, look around the room and you will see another Echo. Align the black sphere to the Echo and a conversation will play out.
By the end of the conversation, you will get another Plot Element called Torchbearers, which is a cult inside the Dark Place that attacked and burned everyone in the derailed train.
With a new Plot Element in mind, you can now go back outside and change the scene with the Plot Element by going into the Writer’s Room and swapping out the Murder Cult Plot Element with the Torchbearer one.
With the Plot Element now changed, you will find that the train is now open, as well as filled with the burnt bodies of the victims of the cult’s attack. You will need to go inside the train and go through it.
You won’t have to worry about the bodies getting up to attack you, but it certainly adds tension to the already tense game.
After going through the train, you will find yourself on the other side of the train with an open door. Go through the door and go down the ladder to progress.
With the Derailed Train behind you, you can now continue on the cult’s trail. Just follow the path and you will eventually be lead down a flight of stairs.
When you reach the bottom of the stairs, you will find a puzzle that has something to do with the lights and the Lamp.
Here, you will need to remove some lights and put on lights in different areas to move around this maze.
For the first light (which is located on the right side after going down the stairs), grab the light and then go back.
Back at the bottom of the stairs, use the Lamp once again to remove the light and changing the scene, allowing you to continue.
Move a bit further up and stand here. Use the Lamp once again to place the light here, which will open the way forward.
Follow the path until it leads you to a blocked gate. Use the Lamp again to place a light here, which will open the path forward in another route.
Afterwards, go back to where you were and grab the light from there to change the area.
Once the area changes once again, you will find the area is now clear and you can continue forward.
Keep going and you will reach a new area. You will have to go through train cars, but it’s pretty straightforward.
You will know you have made it to where you need to go when you reach the End of the Line scene.
That’s all you need to know on how to rewrite the Derailed Train scene and to follow the cult’s trail in Alan Wake 2. Did this guide help you out in progressing through the story? Let us know in the comments below.
