Best Unit Tier List (Update 4)

The game is always changing, and with new characters dropping, the rankings can flip pretty quickly. With the arrival of Update 4, I’m here to break down the strengths and weaknesses of each unit so you can put together the best team possible. Whether you’re all about dishing out damage, controlling the battlefield, or supporting your units, this list will help you figure out which units to grab and level up as you dive into Story and Infinite modes.

Before we dive in, keep in mind that every unit has its own strengths, and rankings can be situational. Some units shine in specific modes, while others are more universally strong. Here’s how I’ve structured this tier list:

  • S-Tier – The absolute best units in the game. These units dominate in multiple game modes and should be prioritized for investment.
  • A+ Tier – Very strong units that perform exceptionally well but might require specific setups or have minor drawbacks compared to S-Tier units.
  • Great Supports – Essential support units that can significantly enhance your team’s effectiveness, whether through buffs, debuffs, or utility.
  • A-Tier – Solid units that hold their own in battle. They might not be as broken as S or A+ tier units, but they are still viable choices.
  • Good Supports – Situationally strong support units. They may not be meta-defining but can be valuable in specific team compositions.
  • B-Tier – Decent units that can be useful for newer players but start to fall off in higher-level content.
  • C-Tier – Generally outclassed units that struggle to keep up with stronger options. Use them if necessary, but don’t invest too heavily.

S-Tier (Best of the Best!)

You should aim to get every unit in this tier—no debate.

  • Gojo vs. Gilgamesh: Gojo only ranks slightly higher because of his ability. Some people may say Gilgamesh is better, but they’re very close.
  • New Unit: Kempache: Simple—insane damage output and strong abilities. He has a passive that looks like a debuff, but it actually benefits him. No argument needed here—he’s just a great Mythic.
  • Saber Alter: Nothing changed in this update, so she stays in S-tier.
  • Ragnaw: Still an excellent Secret unit.

A+ Tier

I added this tier because I felt S-tier got a bit too crowded. Every unit here is worth getting.

  • Ichigo: Not great on paper, but when used properly in Infinite Mode (especially with Sakura) he becomes very strong. If you’re playing Story Mode, though, he’s not as great.
  • Sukuna: After his recent buff, he’s now a solid support option with burn and bleed damage. Let me know if you think he should move up or down.
  • Yoruichi: Her AOE cone isn’t as large as other FW units, so she’s ranked slightly lower. Some might argue she should be higher, but I think her placement here is fair.

Great Supports

If a unit is in this tier, you should get them—no question. There’s no specific order here since they all serve different purposes.

  • Speedwagon (money support)
  • Takaroda (farms)
  • Alucard (bleed & wounded effects)
  • Sakura (Fate) – Very useful in this update, not just for Saber Alter, but other new units as well.
  • Divolo – No longer obtainable unless through trading, so I won’t focus too much on him.
  • Diogo – Time-stop ability makes him solid.
  • Crocodile – Cheap slow unit.

One interesting case is Uryu. He’s a future-proof support unit because he reflects status effects like stun back onto enemies. If a boss stuns him, he reflects it. This could be huge in future updates!

A-Tier

I feel like this tier is mostly accurate, but since I’m returning to the game, some placements might be a little off. For example, Valentine (Love Train) could be misplaced, and maybe Sun Ju Woo is better than Igris—though I personally favor Igris (probably some bias since I have Monarch on him).

If you’re wondering which units to prioritize from AA tier, I highly recommend:

  • Vegeta
  • Choso
  • Toji

The rest are up to your preference, but these three are must-haves.

Good Supports

Being in the “Good Supports” tier doesn’t mean a unit isn’t meta. Instead, it means they shine in specific situations or as alternatives if you lack stronger meta units.

For example, Orihime recently got a buff and is quite solid. However, Soburo and Haruka Rin are generally better. That said, Orihime can outperform them in certain cases, so she lands in “Good Supports” rather than “Great Supports.”

Also, I don’t rank supports within their tier because they serve different functions. Instead, I recommend prioritizing high-tier supports first and grabbing the others afterward. Pro players often collect all of them to cover niche situations—like Rengoku, who buffs burn damage but isn’t universally meta.

Wrap-Up

The meta in Anime Vanguards is always evolving, and as new units drop or balance changes hit, rankings will shift. If your favorite unit isn’t at the top, don’t stress too much—team synergy and strategy can make a huge difference. Keep experimenting, adapt to the changes, and most importantly, have fun with the game! Got thoughts on the rankings? Think a unit deserves to move up or down?
