There are a lot of monsters and dinosaurs you can tame in Ark. There is one monster-sized animal you can tame in the game that will make traversal easier in Ark, and it is the Desmodus. It is essentially an overgrown bat that you can ride and fly around the map. Having a Desmodus is essential in the late game stage of Ark as you need a flying animal that will help you traverse the world of Ark. In this guide, we’ll show you where you can find one and tame it, as well as train it.

There are several places you find them, but we’ll show you the best places. At the coordinates of 38.3, 74.8, you will see a waterfall. Behind the waterfall is a cave that leads to a few Desmodus hanging from the ceiling. This is the best place and it’s easy to find when you know there’s a cave behind the waterfall.
To tame a Desmodus, you will need to have Blood Packs and a tamed animal, like a Daedon for example. Put the Blood Packs in the Daedon and have a Desmodus aggro onto the Daedon. The Desmodus will latch onto the Daedon and will start consuming the Blood Packs.
This will then cause the Desmodus’ taming effectiveness to reach 100%. You then switch the Daedon out with yourself and have the Desmodus latch onto you, and eventually, the bat will be tamed.
Their abilities are generally just a flying attack mount. If you’re near a surface, you can even latch onto it and hang from it. You can then use weapons like firearms to shoot from that surface. You can pick up other animals with the Desmodus as well, just not larger animals like a Giga.
If you hold the attack button, you can unleash a Screech attack onto your enemies. This will trigger an echo location, which you can use to find hostile or ally animals. You can also become cloaked by holding the same button that carries animals, useful if you want to go undetected.
