A Universal Time just got another massive update, this time marking the supposed end of their focus on the One Piece anime and manga franchise. With that revelation comes the arrival of a whole lot of new stuff, including the long-awaited Gomu Gomu no Mi ability. This new move set comes with different gears, as you would expect, and this guide will show you how to get them!
How to Obtain New Gomu Gear 2 to 3 Guide
First of all, if you haven’t been on A Universal Time for a while now and have come back for the new stuff, you will need to find Bartholomew Kuma first.
He can be found near the soccer field, just across the street from Johnny Joestar. When you first talk to him, you cannot actually do anything yet because he will ask you to find the Kuma’s Book item.
You can acquire Kuma’s Book as a fairly uncommon drop from regular enemies, so just keep killing some camps until you get it as a drop. Once you do, add it to your inventory and simply speak to Kuma to activate his features.
Once you can speak with him properly, he will ask you what One Piece location you want to be teleported to. You will want to pick the option “Take me to Orange Town”.
After being teleported to Orange Town, ironically, you have to ignore Luffy and walk straight forward until you find Shanks. Speak with him and exhaust his dialogue options until you get the Straw Hat’s Destiny Quest.
This is where things will start to become a little grindy. First, you will have to kill 20 pirates, which spawn all around this zone and will probably be wiped by other players. Just keep running around and go after camps as they respawn.
Next, you will have to return to Shanks to receive the next objective. Your next task will be to defeat The Clown, also known as Buggy, who will spawn near Shanks every now and then. I have no information on his respawn timer, so you will just have to check back frequently.
He is only level 100, which is lower than the regular pirates, but don’t underestimate him! Make sure to use an ability that is way overleved in comparison to him. His chop fruit attacks are going to be really annoying, so ensure that you also have high health.
Once he is defeated, just go back to Shanks and complete the quest. Congratulations, you now have the Gomu Gomu no Mi fruit in your inventory! All you need to do now is eat it to activate the ability.
Gear 2 and 3
Now, to get to gear 2, you just have to ascend Gomu by reaching level 200 and also having at least 1 million UCoins on hand. When you have successfully ascended Gomu, return to Orange Town and find Luffy.
He is standing just to the left from Bartholomew Kuma, so he’s incredibly hard to miss. With a Meat item on hand, which drops from random loot crates, speak with him to receive a new quest.
Basically, you will be repeating similar steps that you did for Shanks’ quest earlier. Defeat 20+ pirates while using Gomu and then return to Luffy to get the next part, which is to kill Buggy while using Gomu.
Next, you will be tasked with defeating the Surgeon of Death, also known as Law, who can be found in Punk Hazard. You will get notified via a wanted poster popping up in the middle of your screen if he respawns, so just wait around if he isn’t there.
Finally, after completing that step, you will have to defeat Luffy while using Gomu. This is the hardest part of the quest, as he has 27,500 health and can hit like a truck.
Upon successfully defeating Luffy, you should get a message saying “You have earned the ability to use Gear 2”. What isn’t made clear is that this also includes Gear 3, so there isn’t anything else you need to do after the sparring session!
TIP: You can switch to other abilities to deal damage to each of the bosses, but you must switch back to Gomu for the killing blow. In some cases, you might need another player to tank for you while you do this, or else the boss will despawn while you swap abilities.
BONUS: Other Ways to Get Gomu
Although doing the quest line from Shanks is the most straightforward and non-RNG reliant way to get Gomu Gomu no Mi, you can also acquire it through two other means.
First, you can find the Gomu Devil Fruit item as a very rare random spawn on the ground. This is the same thing you get as a reward from Shanks’ quest, so if you are lucky enough to find one, just pick it up and eat it before somebody else gets it!
Second, you can also get it by dealing at least 15% damage to Whitebeard. The Gomu Devil Fruit is a part of his loot pool, though the drop rate for it is unknown and likely to be pretty rare.
