As a survival game with a strong emphasis on crafting, Dune Awakening challenges even the most experienced of players. You’ll constantly find yourself constantly looking around for materials and taking care of your own health. Whether it’s crafting or your own health, you will need to get water all the time. There are quite a few water sources in Dune Awakening, but which one is the best option. In this guide, we’ll go over stats, what features each of the different machines have – so you can go with what suits you best. Without further delay, let’s dive in!
Best Water Source
There are a bunch of water sources and machines that you can make in Dune Awakening. We’ll be taking a look at both the basic and advanced versions – so you can get an idea of which one you should aim for.
Obviously, not all of these will be available from the get go. So, we’ll be assuming that you’ve progressed towards the late game and gotten as many of these water sources.
Water Sources Stat Breakdown
Below are all the machines that produce water in Dune Awakening, and their various stats:
- Blood Purifier
- Power Cost: 10
- Water Production Rate
- 1 ml per second
- 60 ml per min
- 3,600 ml per hour
- Water Per Power (Efficiency): 6 ml per min
- Improved Blood Purifier
- Power Cost: 25
- Water Production Rate
- 3.2 ml per second
- 192 ml per min
- 11,520 ml per hour
- Water Per Power: 7.68 ml per min
- Windtrap
- Power Cost: 75
- Water Production Rate
- 0.75 ml per second
- 45 ml per min
- 2,700 ml per hour
- Water Per Power: 0.6 ml per min
- Large Windtrap
- Power Cost: 135
- Water Production Rate
- 1.75 ml per second
- 105 ml per min
- 6,300 ml per hour
- Water Per Power: 0.77 ml per min
- Deathstill
- Power Cost: 200
- Water Production Rate

- Water Per Power: 2.08 ml per min
- Advanced Deathstill
- Power Cost: 350
- Water Production Rate
- 15 ml per second
- 900 ml per min
- 54,000 ml per hour
- Water Per Power: 2.57 ml per min
So, to make this data more understandable, here are the metrics:
- Most Efficient Water Source
- Advanced Water Purifier – 7.68 ml per min
- Highest Power Cost
- Advanced Deathstill – 350
- Highest Output
- Advanced Deathstill – 54,000 per hour

Addressing Water Purifier Confusion
Quite a few players might look at this data and thing that the stats are wrong. For example, the Improved Blood Purifier says 8 ml/s processing rate when you interact with it.
However, this processing rate refers to the blood to water conversion. It’s not the rate at which water is actually being produced. The water produces at a 40% rate of the processing rate.
As a result, the water conversion rate for the improved blood purifier is 3.2 ml/s.

Which Water Source Is The Best?
We’ve looked at the statistics and it’s seems like the results are obvious. However, statistics aren’t everything because we are looking at power here.
Unlike other games, power is not expensive in Dune Awakening, especially as you start progressing through the game. So, you will need to factor in time and effort as well – as players will give these factors more importance.
As a result, we’ll look at the best options for differing play styles.
Windtraps
Windtraps – both basic and large ones – are the best options for passive water generation. You just set them and forget them, which actually suits a lot of players who’d rather focus their effort on something else.
So, if you’re not looking for water quickly and aren’t doing large scale production, you should for windtraps.
The only issue with them is that their water generation is really low and the power cost is really high – making them the least efficient.
We recommend that you wait for the large windtraps, as they are much more efficient and produce a lot more.
Just keep in mind that you’ll need to place Filters in the Large Windtraps, which requires Spice production. As a result, you may have to farm spice.

Blood Purifiers
If you’re someone who cares about efficiency, going with advanced blood purifiers is the way to go. You’ll consume less power with less overall infrastructure in your base. However, you will need to collect lots of blood for you to actually generate the water you need.
We recommend that you run eco labs while bringing blood bags with you – while having at least three blood purifiers. In this way, you can enjoy the eco lab runs, get all the loot they have, and return with blood that you can place in the blood purifiers.
With 9 medium blood bags or 6 large blood bags, you can fill the three blood purifiers. You’ll be able to get water much faster and in greater amount – while having less infrastructure.
The only thing you need to understand is that you will need to farm blood like any other material in the game. If you enjoy the grind, you’ll have a much better time with blood purifiers.

Deathstills
When it comes to the best overall water producer, the deathstills are hard to beat. If you need lots of water production and don’t mind the extra power usage, deathstills are the best.
Of course, you will need to bring along your buggies and transport the bodies back. This will also add grind and be much more difficult than simply filling up blood. On top of that, the extra infrastructure will take up space on your base.
In this case, we recommend that you double dip. Extract the blood from bodies to use for the blood purifier, then use the bodies to get further water using the deathstills!

Dew Reaper
There’s another water source that should not be ignored: the Dew Reaper. You can generate insane amount of water fast from primrose flower fields.
However, the problem is that your base will need to be near a place that actually has them. Additionally, you can only extract water at night – with a small optimal window to get the most amount of water. You can see the window in the top right corner of the screen after pressing T.
Additionally, keep in mind that the Dew Reaper does use power so you will need to repair it too. You’ll also need a water container like a Literjon to actually store the water.
You can check out our how to make and use dew reaper guide to learn more about this water source.

That’s everything you need to know for the best water source in Dune Awakening. As you can see, there is no straightforward answer as each water source is different for different situations and play styles. We recommend that you try out each of these and see which one helps you achieve your overall goals. Doing so will allow you to farm large amounts of water.
