It won’t be Wukong if it weren’t for his skills, abilities and powers, like the classic “Cloud Step” where he conjures a clone and disappears. In Black Myth: Wukong, they’re called a spell, and they let you do an action to help you win your fights, just like the example I just gave.
Acquiring them may not be as easy as playing through the game’s storyline. While you’ll acquire some of the spells in the game through beating storyline bosses, some will require you to beat optional bosses, finish side quests as well as complete tasks. In this guide, I’ll show you how to get all the spells in the game, show their locations, as well as provide directions!
All Spell Locations
There’s a total of 10 Spells spread across the 6 chapters that you can acquire in Black Myth Wukong. As mentioned above, getting some of the spells does not just require you to beat all the storyline bosses in the game, remember that there are hidden bosses like Guangzhi in Chapter 1, and much more!
It’s most definitely good to complete all 10 of the Spells, since they’ll all come in handy, especially in bossfights regardless of your playstyle. But if you’re only interested in certain Spells in specific Chapters, feel free to use the Table of Contents below for easy navigation.
Chapter 1: Black Wind Mountain
- Immobilize
Acquisition: Automatically obtained during the boss fight against “Bullguard.” This is an unmissable story reward in Chapter 1, occurring shortly after your first main boss encounter in the woods. - Red Tides
Acquisition: Defeat the optional boss “Guangzhi” in the Forest of Wolves > Outside the Forest. From the shrine, take the left path, cross the wooden bridge, and follow the torch-lit trail to reach the boss arena at the end. - Cloud Step
Acquisition: Automatically unlocked after defeating the “Black Wind King,” a main boss in Chapter 1 (unmissable story event).
Chapter 2: Yellow Wind Ridge
- Rock Solid
Acquisition: Automatically unlocked after defeating the “Tiger Vanguard” boss. It’s the same dude that drops the Copper Pill soak! - A Pluck of Many
Acquisition: After defeating the “Tiger Vanguard” boss, interact with the statue in the boss arena at Crouching Tiger Temple > Temple Entrance. If the statue isn’t interactable, ensure that you’ve also defeated the “Stone Vanguard” boss. This will trigger a cutscene where blood drains from the arena and a hatch opens.- Enter the hatch, drop down, and follow the path through the cellar until another cutscene triggers, after which you’ll automatically receive the spell.
- Alternatively, you can access this location via Yellow Wind Formation > Windseal Gate by opening the large gate and taking the sandy path directly ahead.
- Azure Dust
Acquisition: Reward for defeating the “Man-in-Stone” boss. He is located at Fright Cliff > Squall Hideout. From the shrine, take the path to the right and go through the ravine with some water.- At the end, you’ll find black thorns—interact with them to reveal a man trapped within. You’ll need to give him the key item “Stone Essence,” which is dropped by the “Mother of Stone” boss, found in the cave between the Squall Hideout and Rockrest Flat shrines.
- In the cave, hit the three blue crystals (at Rockrest Flat) and return to the Man-in-Stone to receive the Azure Dust spell.
Chapter 3: The New West
- Ring of Fire
Acquisition: From the Pagoda Realm > Warding Temple shrine, head up the stairs into the temple courtyard to trigger the boss fight against the “Macaque Chief.” After defeating him, an old man will give you the Ring of Fire spell in a cutscene. - Spell Binder
Acquisition: Reward for completing the “Treasure Hunter” side questline in Chapter 3. - Umbral Abyss
Acquisition: Automatically rewarded upon completing Chapter 3, after defeating the main boss “Yellowbrow” (second encounter).
Chapter 4: The Webbed Hollow & Chapter 5: Flaming Mountains
- No spells available in these chapters.
Chapter 6: Mount Huaguo
- Somersault Cloud
Acquisition: Automatically obtained after defeating the first main boss in Chapter 6, the “Supreme Inspector” (unmissable story reward).
