Defeating Guangmou in the highly-anticipated Souls-like game called Black Myth: Wukong is an essential step in the great journey of reviving the Monkey King. You’ll discover him residing at the heart of the Bamboo Grove ready to use his sneaky projectile moves against you.

Luckily, Guangmou is not invincible and there are methods you can use to defeat him. We’ll tell you all you need to know on how to defeat the boss!

Guangmou Boss Weaknesses & How To Beat Guide

This guide will cover the following:

  • Guangmou’s weaknesses
  • Exploiting Guangmou’s attack pattern
  • Some tips

Let’s start with his weaknesses.

Guangmou’s Weaknesses

One of Guangmou’s weaknesses is that he can’t defend himself with melee attacks at close range (other than his very slow but repulsing explosion that requires charging up.)

You can use this to your advantage with light attack combos whenever you manage to close the gap.

Additionally, defeating Lingxuzi as your first boss should also prepare you for Guangmou if you’ve taken advantage of Immobilize during your previous combat.

You’ll find Gunagmou summoning a Gusty orb that slowly floats toward you. Since the Yaoguai Chief needs to control the orb’s direction, you can cast Immobilize on the orb to lock him and his projectile in position, nullifying the entire attack.

If you already haven’t equipped the Immobilize spell, this is your chance to do it. Aside from Immobilize, here are some other spells and items that will come in handy during the battle:

  • Anti-poison medicine: An added safety measure against Guangmou’s poison is an anti-poison medicine. You can acquire this medicine from the Shrine’s shop. Try buying a couple before you head into battle.

Now, let’s get straight into Guangmou’s moves and attack pattern.

Exploiting Guangmou’s Attack Pattern

Guangmou will follow a pattern with some of his attacks. Identifying what attack he is about to perform will help you exploit it and give you a chance to either counter, dodge, or deal damage. Here are some of his moves you can watch out for and what you need to do in those instances.

  • This Yaoguai Chief will always begin the fight by summoning a cluster of ghostly projectiles that track you down. Avoid the group of projectiles by either dodging to the side or using the staff spin to deflect them all.
  • Guangmou typically creates his Ghost Projectiles as a distraction to sneak up next to you while you try to deflect them so stay on your toes and expect a sneaky poison spitting attack.
  • Gunagmu has another projectile attack where he levitates off the ground for a small moment. He then proceeds to shoot out a line of spells. These spells will shoot rapidly downward in front of him so avoid using any of your moves during this time.

  • When he yells “Storm forth!” that’s when he summons the orb. You can use the Immobilize spell on the orb as stated previously.
  • Sometimes Guangmou prefers to avoid using his orbs and instead rapidly waves his fan to create a tornado at your position. Therefore, being on the constant movement and pressing your attack will help you avoid these tornadoes.
  • When you anticipate that you’re in danger of becoming poisoned, using the Red Tides spell can help you transform yourself out of danger. All status effects inflicted on you will be removed when you transform as Guangzhi. You also regain your regular health bar
  • You’ll discover that the most frustrating move of his is when he summons his poisonous snakes from the ground to spit venom in your direction several times. While the snakes do have a health bar, it’s not worth pursuing to defeat them. Instead, the best course of action is to either:
    • Run and dodge
    • Find a good corner in the area where all snakes are visible and use your staff spin to deflect all incoming attacks.

Some Tips for Your Battle

  • When snakes are not your threat, it’s essential that you stay on the offensive.
  • Since Guangmou typically tends to teleport away, and is more dangerous at a distance, be sure to close the gap between you and him.
  • Defeating the Wandering Wight will earn you a Spirit Attack where you can knock Guangmou down with a heavy headbutt. This will keep him from teleporting away when you manage to get close.
  • Once you’ve learned to evade his projectiles, the rest of the fight will mainly consist of chasing him down and stunning him with your Spirit Attack, Immobilize, and other heavy hits.

Defeating this Yaoguai Chief will earn you one Stone Spirit, 700 Experience, 520 Will and Guangmou’s Spirit added to your collection to summon your own batch of venomous snakes!
