Pokemon Scarlet and Violet allow players to customize their pokemon journey fully.
The new Pokemon game makes subtle attempts to direct you to specific locations, but how you create your own path through the vibrant new region of Paldea makes it stand out from the rest.
Just like other Pokemon games, Scarlet and Violet begin with you waking up at home, meeting your rival, choosing one of three starters, and before you know it, you’re exploring the world and catching a diverse range of monsters.
The only difference is that you won’t be following a story this time.
Pokemon Scarlet and Violet: Changing the Tera Type
All Pokemons in the Paldea region have a Tera Type in addition to their normal type or types. Tera type usually corresponds to one of the Pokemon’s standard types. Some Pokemon, however, will have a Tera type that is different from their standard type.
Terastallizing is a new game feature that makes the new installment more challenging than ever.
Most gym leaders use Terastallizing to hide their Pokemon’s weakness, making the final push a little more complicated.
But, how do we change it?
Changing Tera Type
Changing a Pokémon’s Tera Type is as simple as visiting an NPC, but you must first meet some requirements.
The first step is to defeat Normal-type gym leader Larry at Medali’s Treasure Eatery shown in the map above.
When you defeat him, you’ll be able to speak with the chef behind the sushi bar, who will allow you to change the Tera Type of your Pokémon.
As long as you have 50 Tera Shards, you can change the Tera Type of any Pokémon. You’ll find these all over Paldea, primarily by defeating Pokémon of the same Tera Type in Tera Raid Battles.
Tyme, the math teacher at the academy, also gives you 50 Rock Tera Shards if you finish her classes.
