Core Keeper 1.0: Wood Farming Guide

Automate all your wood farming needs!

In Core Keeper 1.0, gathering materials is essential as you’ll always be crafting one thing or another. Wood is one such material that you’ll need a lot at the start. However, as time goes by, it will be annoying to take care of a big farm.

So, in this guide, we’ll show you how you can automate your farming needs, no matter how advanced you are in the game. This will make gathering wood a trivial matter and you’ll have time to focus on other aspects of the game. Let’s get into it!

Wood Farming Guide

In this guide, we’ll be looking at two types of farms: basic and advanced wood farms. If you’re relatively early in the game, you can make the basic ones.

As you progress through the game, you can then make your way to the advanced farms.

You’ll also need tin ore as you progress through the game. Our how to find tin ore guide can help you out there too!

Feel free to use the Table of Contents if you’re only interested in a specific farm.

Basic Farm

Starting off, we’ll be looking at the basic farm when it comes to gathering wood. For this farm, you’ll need to have a few root seeds. In the early stages of the game, you might have gathered a few.

Even if you have a handful, that will do. In our case, we will be using 5 root seeds.

So, start by tilling the ground using a ho. After that, place all the root seeds to have and water them to start growing them.

Once that’s done, you’re going to need some floor tiles. Whatever kind of floor tiles you have can work, like wood, stone or painted ones. Take these tiles and place them as shown in the arrangement below.

The reason for this is so that we can force the root seeds to grow in a single direction. In this case, we are forcing them to grow towards the south.

Next, you’re going to need crude drills. Try to have as many crude drills as the amount of root seeds that you placed in the ground.

We’ll be placing the crude drills below the root seeds. But make sure to skip one tile vertically when you are placing the drills. This is to give the wood room to grow.

After that, place a lever next to the drills, so you can turn the drills on and off. For now, turn them off.

Next, we’ll be placing down conveyor belts. These aren’t strictly necessary but will make the farm much more optimized. Have the conveyors in the tiles just below the drills and have them go in a single direction.

This will allow the wood to arrive in one spot after you turn on the drills. You can just go to this spot periodically and grab your wood.

Once the wood has fully grown, you can turn on the drills and start the wooding farming. This is only for the basic farm and we recommend you try the advanced one once you’ve gotten a lot of root seeds.

Advanced Farm

The advanced farm is the most efficient wood farming method in Core Keeper. For this farm, you will need the following material:

  • x53 Root Seeds
  • x8 Drills
  • x10 Robot Arms
  • x63 Floor Tiles
  • x1 Lever
  • x13 Conveyor Belts
  • x1 Electricity Generator
  • x2 Large Chests
  • x20 Electrical Wires
  • x4 Table Saws
  • x1 Fence Gate (optional)
  • x61 Fence Tiles (optional)

Additionally, you can also get the following equipment for the advanced farm:

  • Roofing Gadget (optional)
  • Wash Basin
  • Wooden Hoe
  • Watering Can.

You will also need x164 Ground Blocks that are made from materials like stone or Metropolis Block. Make sure they aren’t dirt, turf or meadow. This is because you want ground blocks where wood won’t grow.

You also need x102 dirt tiles for the section where wood will grow. You can replace the dirt tiles depending on the type of wood you are using. For example, if you’re using coral wood replace the dirt with beach sand, and for gleam wood replace it with crystal ground.

After that, you’ll be arranging everything in the outline shown below, which is a 14×19 arrangement. The top half will have all the conveyors and electrical equipment, while the bottom half will have the actual wood farm.

Once you have the outline set up, it’s time to start filling it up with the ground blocks that cannot grow wood. Make sure to not use these tiles for the farm area.

Next, it’s time to set up the farm area. For this one, you need to start by forming vertical rows of ground tiles. Make sure to skip one row after each as this is where we’ll be growing the wood.

Once you’re done, use a hoe at the bottom end of each of the empty rows. After that, plant your root seeds and water them to start growing them.

The seeds will be forced to grow wood up the vertical rows in the north direction.

Filling ground tiles on farm in Core Keeper.

After that’s taken care of, we’ll move onto the conveyor area. Over here, we’ll start by placing our drills above the vertical rows where the root seeds are growing. We’ll be using these drills to cut the wood.

Once the drills are set up, we’ll start placing the electrical wires. You want to start placing these wires from the first drill on the left. Go up one tile from there and place the lever.

After that, place an electrical wire up one tile and to the left. Next, start placing electrical tiles to the right until you are above the fourth drill. Place the electric generator next to this tile.

This will power up all the electrical wires and form a steady path of power. Place a robot arm to the left of the initial lever so that it can also get power.

There is a glitch or a problem that can occur when you turn on the lever. The power to the drills will start flickering which will cause the farm to not work. So, to rectify this, you can put an electrical wire below the lever and then put the lever on it.

It’s not really clear if it’s a bug or not.

Finally, it’s time to place the conveyors behind the first four drills. Make sure the conveyors are pointed to the left. And lastly, place a chest above the robot arm.

In essence, this setup will allow the robot arm to pick up all the wood that the drills cut from the trees. The arm will take the wood from conveyors and place it automatically into the chest. So, you won’t even have to worry about picking it up yourself.

Placing electrical tiles in Core Keeper.

Now let’s turn our attention to the other drills. Over here, skipping one tile above the drills you’ll be placing more robot arms. Right above the robot arms, you will place saw tables

This setup will allow the arms to pick the wood from the drills and place them directly on the saw table.

Be sure to place electrical wires between all the saw tables. The saw table will then convert the wood into planks. Additionally, this will also power the robot arms.

Next, place more robot arms above the saw tables. Above these new robot arms, place a conveyor that goes to the left. These robot arms will pick the planks automatically and place them on the conveyor.

The final robot arm will be placed on the end of the conveyor belt. Place a chest right next to the robot arm so that it can take the planks and place it into the chest. Make sure to add the electrical wires so you can power this robot arm too.

In the end, your setup will look like something down below.

After that, you can also make some additional changes to make the wood farm look better. You can place the fences all around the farm so that you can protect it. You can also put floor tiles on the electrical wires to hide them if you want.

Lastly, we’ll be making the farm even more efficient for wood farming. After all the trees have grown, what you can do is start removing the ground tiles you placed between the wood trees in the farm area.

Remove them and start placing down root seeds on all the spots. Use up all the root seeds in each spot. This method will basically force the wood to grow in one direction, meaning you won’t need the tiles.

Placing root seeds in Core Keeper.

While you place the seeds, some wood might try to grow from the other rows. Make sure that you cut them and place down all the seeds. After you grow them, you’ll find that all the vertical rows will have trees that go up to the drills.

In this way, you’ll be able to farm wood in the best way possible in core keeper. You’ll be able to get wood from the left chest and planks from the right chest. Here is what the final advanced wood farm should look like.

That’s everything you need to know for the wood farming guide in Core Keeper. You can use whichever farm you want and modify it according to your liking. But be sure to try the advanced farm for the best results.

Besides wood, you’ll also need to get your hands on wool. Our how to get lots of wool guide has you covered!
