Currencies Explained

Crystal of Atlan features a variety of different currencies that players can use. Starting off, we have gold which is the game’s main currency. There are two types of gold:

  • Normal Gold
    • Can be used to purchase tradable items from the Consignment House
    • Can also be used for Enhancement
  • Bound Gold
    • Can only be used for Enhancement purposes.

Trade and manage your gold carefully so you don’t end up with a lot of Bound Gold which restricts your trading capabilities.

Interestingly, you can actually transfer both types of gold between your main characters and alts. This is very useful as gold is the most important currency in the game.

It is used for pretty much everything – including trading for the game’s premium currency.

If you have extra gold lying around, you can trade it for Opals – the game’s second currency. The game’s premium currencies are the following:

  • Prismadiums
    • Can only be used to purchase items from the Shop
    • Cannot be used to purchase Gold
  • Opals
    • Can be used to purchase items from both the Shop and Consignment House (where you can exchange it for gold)

Opals can mainly be earned in game through trading allowing free to play players to benefit a lot. Unfortunately, prismadiums are mainly earned by spending real money. There are still ways for you to get it – but paying players will benefit more from them.

As a free to play player, you want to spend your opals where you can get the most benefit. This is where we recommend that you prioritize getting outfits. Outfits not only offer cosmetic benefits but also provide you with additional stats and power boosts.

Once you have the outfits taken care of, you can consider using Opals for other upgrades.

Trading

In Crystal of Atlan, the trading system allows you to sell your items to other players. However, you cannot trade directly with players like some other MMOs. Instead, you list your items on the marketplace for other players to look at.

Think of it like putting stuff for sale in a yard sale on a display. The whole server can see the item you have listed for sale.

So, what should you actually try to sell through the trading system. We recommend that you list pink tier items that you get from Elite or Abyss Dungeons. For example, consider a situation in which you got a pink tier item that is really powerful but useless for your class.

Instead of scrapping it, you should consider selling it through the trading system. This will allow you to get gold which is very useful early on. The global release is new so many of these pink tier items will be in high demand as everyone tries to level up.

You can also list crafting materials and even Abyss Dungeon entry tickets.

This is a useful strategy for free to play players as you will be able to maximize your gold gained this way. After all, gold is the most important currency in the game.

Additonally, the game also limits the amount of earning you can do because of the energy system. So, we recommend using your alts to get items and sell them so you can keep your income flowing in.

Consignment House

The Consignment House in Crystal of Atlan is where you can redeem your gold into Prismadium, so that you can purchase items from the Shop. Similarly, you can also sell and purchase gold using Opals.

In the Consignment House, you get to set the amount of gold you want to sell in exchange for Opals. When another player accepts your deal in the listing, you get the Opals.

However, there is a catch. The game actually takes a deduction fee that applies only if the sale goes through. Furthermore, to actually be able to sell the gold you will need to have Prismadiums – which covers the seller’s deduction fee.

Based on what we’ve seen from the China Servers, this fee is roughly a 1:5 ratio i.e. spend x1 Prismadium to get x5 Opals. However, this amount can be different and it remains to be seen in the Global Release.

You can get Prismadiums through events and other activities that the game conducts throughout the season. So, try to be on the lookout for such events so that you can rack up as many Prismadiums as possible.

Outfits

As discussed before, outfits should be on the top of your priority list as a free to play player. This is because a lot of grinding that you’ll be doing related to the trading, currencies and the consignment house are so that you can get outfits.

Generally, paying players will try to avoid all that hassle to get outfits by using real money. Your goal will be to utilize all the systems we have discussed to get outfits.

Here is a breakdown of the process you’ll be following to get outfits:

  • Farm extra items, materials and gold on your main and alt accounts
  • Sell those extras for even more gold
  • Convert that gold into Opals at the Consignment House
  • Use opals to purchase outfits.

Outfits are crucial because not only do they make you look good, but they also offer a solid boost to your power. On top of that, you also get stat boosts with the highest rarity outfits offering the best benefits.

So, we recommend that you try and save for the top tier outfits before spending your Opals on toehr things. It will give you the most bang for your buck. Be sure to also use outfits that actually benefit the class you have chosen for your characters.

Also be on the lookout for outfits as rewards – such as getting outfits for registering. You might also be able to get outfits from PvP and future events, although they might not be the best of the best.

The ultimate goal, at least at the start of the game, should be to get outfits by utilizing this system. In this way, you won’t have to splurge real money and can reap the benefits for your character as a free to play player!
