How To Beat Cyclops Boss Guide

The Cyclops boss is located in the Goblin Caves at the very bottom of the Goblin Maze. When battling this monster, keep in mind that it may take a lot longer because it has a significantly larger health pool than one of the similar bosses, the cave troll. While movement speed is always beneficial, it is not as crucial in this battle as it was against the cave troll.

Cyclops Boss’ Attacks

Before we talk about the strategies that you can follow to beat this boss, you need to have a good knowledge of what kind of attacks are waiting for you. Cyclops has 4 basic attacks and 3 charged attacks. Let’s take a look at what they are, and how to fight against them in the best way possible.

Basic Attacks

Cyclops’ basic attacks are not that difficult to avoid. As we mentioned, there are 4 basic attacks.

  • Hand Swipe: It is a diagonal swing that rotates clockwise, beginning high and ending low. The cyclops lets out a loud roar and strikes briefly with his left hand. This can be avoided by dodging or leaping above. Generally speaking, unless you were already low on health, this attack will not kill you.
    • You can avoid this move by jumping to the left of the Cyclops.
  • Backhand Attack: This is one of the Cyclops’ most deadly attacks. Like the basic attack, it is slow. However, it has an incredibly great range, and at some angles, it is too high to jump over.
    • This attack, unlike the basic attack, has a high chance of becoming an instant kill. Due to its proximity to the player’s head.
    • If you have enough movement speed, you can dodge this attack by either dodging the Cyclops or strafing to the right and crouch-jumping. If you are in an emergency, you can bend over, turn to the left, and look. If you move more slowly, this technique works well for getaways.
  • Slam Attack: This move is one of the easiest to avoid, yet it packs a powerful punch. If you are blinded, you can easily fall victim to this attack by cycling in the incorrect direction.
    • If you are behind him, he will turn to face you swiftly, which could result in a hit. Otherwise, the Cyclops will raise his club above his head and crash it on the ground at the player’s position in front of him.
    • You don’t have to jump to avoid this; just cycle left of him.
  • Sweep Attack: This attack is rather unusual, occurring only once or twice during the fight. The Cyclops places his club on the ground and uses it to rake the dirt, which causes dust to fly up and blind the figure.
    • Once blinded, you will need to kite the cyclops around the room and ensure you don’t get hit. It is important to jump if you are close to the Cyclops since you could be attacked by it during its attack.

Charged Attacks

Let’s now examine the three charged moves: the Heavy Step, the Charge Attack, and the Tantrum Attack. During the battle, these moves could occur at any time.

  • Heavy Step: This attack happens following every tantrum/new boss phase. As well as after the boss has been angry for a predetermined amount of time. With a leg lift and a “BOHKEKA” cry, the cyclops will descend forcefully onto the ground.
    • He will deal you about 200 damage (instant kill) if you are close. And you will receive a slow effect if you are mid-range away. Note that the distance is determined by where his foot falls, and not the location of the cyclops’s body.
    • If the Cyclops slows down, you should swing your fists, kite him to the right, and dodge any oncoming blows.
  • Charge Attack: After a protracted charge-up animation with two potential audio cues, the cyclops will raise his club on his right side. The Cyclops will then start charging at the player, swinging his club from left to right before pausing momentarily.
    • The Cyclops will resume swinging his club from the right to the left after the brief stop. He will then make a forceful retreat to the right.
    • You will need to time two hops on the left and right swings in order to avoid these strikes.
    • After you’ve finished these jumps, you’ll have to duck beneath the last swing. If you avoided each of these swings, you should leave the Cyclops as soon as possible.
  • Tantrum Attacks: This attack is initiated twice, and the cyclops repeatedly hit the ground with his club.
    • After a little while, boulders will start to fall from the ceiling as soon as the club hits the ground.
    • For the player to avoid being struck by these falling pebbles, they must time their crouch-jump precisely.
    • The cyclops will only kneel at a specific damage threshold, marking the end of this phase.
    • Cyclops’s assault pattern does not reach a specific angle. Therefore, the optimal place to be during this cycle is at his left shoulder.

Other Tips to Beat Cyclops

  • Keep to the right of the Cyclops. You may be susceptible to the Cyclops’ blindness debuffs if you are facing the left side of the creature. Despite not dealing any damage on its own, the debuff may cause you to misidentify some attacks and force you to rely entirely on your audio cues.
  • Remain calm. The majority of the cyclops’s attacks are meticulously planned and come with clear auditory indications. Take your time determining which attack is coming, in which direction it is heading, and how to get away from it. Certain strikes are instantaneous kills, while others entail varying dangers. You can be struck by some attacks and survive. You will probably lose the most health during the tantrum phase, either as a result of timing your jumps incorrectly or failing to crouch while jumping.
  • When you jump to avoid an attack, be sure to toggle crouch afterward because your hitbox will be raised a little, increasing your window of opportunity to dodge.
  • The audio cues may appear random, but they are actually unique lines played during specific attacks. You will remember these phrases and the attack cycle they occur on if you practice this fight sufficiently. With the blindness debuff applied, you will be able to respond to these strikes.
