Warhammer 40k Dartide is out and there’s a lot of things to unpack here, and we’re not talking about the guts of our enemies, though that’s good too. With the release comes new content and that means new builds for players to experiment with. There’s a lot of weapons, feats and perks to look through and it can be tough to find a great build on your own. There’s a lot of builds you can go for the Veteran Guardsman since it’s the most versatile class in the game. They have a wide range of weapons to pick and even more perks and feats to combine to see which one works with which. Here are some tips and tricks on playing the Veteran in Darktide.
Class Specialty
The best thing the Veteran excels at is taking down elites, once you’re at a certain point in the game elites just melt to your weapons. The veteran’s main ability highlights elites for you and gives you ranged bonuses while having the Bio-Optic Targeting feat will highlight the elites to your allies as well.
Paired with the passive Make Every Shot Count gives you a massive bonus to weak point damage. Now for the weapons!
Boltgun
The Bolter is the best weapon to use just because of how meaty the gun is. Everything about this gun just says “Hit Hard.” You’re firing miniature rockets after all, so it’s no wonder that this gun is awesome. What you’ll need to focus on this gun is Stability and Mobility since damage is already so high, the perks you should go for are the increased Critical chance and Damage. The Blessing Pinning Fire is the best one for this weapon.
Plasma Gun
The Plasma gun is my personal favorite gun in any Warhammer game be it in Tabletop or in video games. Another heavy hitter of a gun that can melt through enemies and melt yourself as well! Focus on maxing damage, thermal resistance and charge rate. Reload Speed perks is a must for this gun and the blessing Blaze Away will help you a lot.
Hellbore Lasgun
The Hellbore Lasgun can be called a niche weapon due to it not being a scope and being only good with the Onslaught blessing. It does have the best armor piercing you can have and can melt through specials if you use it right. Perks for this gun should be for damage on elites.
Recon Lasgun
The Recon Lasgun is the gun you want to use if you want to clear a horde and make your allies wonder why there’s 20 guardsmen on their side. That’s how fast this gun can fire and with virtually no recoil you can just hold the trigger and sweep the room clean. You’d want critical chance perks as well as the blessing Punishing Salvo.
Autogun
Can’t beat the classics, just throw lead down range! The Autogun is just like the Recon Lasgun but with a large sway, that’s why we’ll pair it with the feat Deadshot. Perks should be for percent damage and critical chance while the best blessing for this gun is Terrifying Barrage.
Autopistol
A great gun in a small package the Autopistol is great for speedrun farming, just as long as you pair it up with the Sustained Fire feat. The perk for this one is Sprint Efficiency as well as the blessing Terrifying Barrage just to throw more lead down range.
Power Sword
Moving into melee weapons the Power sword is the best weapon for a guardsman. The heavy attacks just melt through hoards and it also has good single target damage. For this weapon focus on damage and Finesse while having perks for Elites. Brutal Momentum for the blessing to round things up.
