Deepwoken on Roblox has the new Vow of Iron mode – essentially hardcore difficulty that veterans will like. This mode features its own unique bosses – with the Shogun being one of them. In this guide, we’ll give you tips to beat the boss alongside a breakdown of the moves. Additionally, we’ll also look at where you can find Etris Flasks to increase your survivability when playing the mode. Without further delay, let’s get into it!
How to Beat Shogun & All Etris Flask Locations
Shogun of the Prophet’s Guard is a boss exclusive to the Vow of Iron game mode. He is quite unpredictable since he has no set pattern and will mix his moves around. The moves themselves do have patterns that you can deal with.
Additionally, he also has a very large hitbox which means that you will need to engage closely with him. He’s one of the bosses that you can use to get the drifter memento.
There are Etris Flasks that you can get throughout your run at different locations. We’ll look at these locations at the end too so you can increase your survivability.
Shogun Location
The Shogun boss can be found at the Deep Thresher Nest or Viridian Sanctuary. There is a white portal that you can use to access the Dungeon.

Shogun Moveset
We’ll take a look at all the moves that the Shogun will use and how you can deal with each one:
Serpent-Slaying Sweep
The Shogun crouches low for a leftward slash, chains into a red-highlighted slash, then unleashes two ultra-fast spinning slashes (both parryable), with a tiny delay between the final pair.
Counter: Parry > Dodge > Parry > Parry > Attack
Severing Flourish
The Shogun red-highlights, spins into two unparryable devastating slashes (first one heavily delayed). You will need to roll-cancel to fully evade it.
Counter: Dodge > Dodge
Crush & Rend
The Shogun lunges forward with a kicking dash that kicks up dust (partially hiding them), then brings down a heavy overhead swing.
Counter: Parry > Attack > Parry > Attack > Parry
Shogun’s Brutality
The Shogun white-highlights a brisk stomp (must jump!), chains two blistering parryable slashes, then spins into a white-highlighted leg slash (jump again). Jump when the highlight is white.
Counter: Jump > Parry > Parry > Jump > Attack
Mortal Draw: Kiztatziki Dance
The Shogun roars before unleashing a savage combo. This move only comes when the Shogun is at 50% health or below.
Counter: Bait this move out and simply run away. It is too difficult to deal with.
Boss Tips
Here are some tips that we recommend using when dealing with the Shogun:
- Purple highlights mean you can crouch or block
- Green highlights mean parry only
- White highlights mean jump only
- Using ranged attacks is not recommended as they only work when he is in mid animation
- The Shogun chains his moves constantly with minimum delay, so be active.
Etris Flask Locations
There are four Etris Flask locations that we currently know of in Deepwoken. Etris Flasks can be purchased for 250 Notes. Here are the locations:
Location #1: Viridian Sanctuary Ruins
Next to some boxes near a fallen cart.

Location #2: Red Lotus Keep
On a stall near an NPC in the Red Lotus Keep courtyard.

Location #3: The Indigo Citadal
Behind a meditating NPC at the back of the shrine.

Location #4: The Sable Estate
On a cart right next to a NPC.

Wrap Up
That’s everything you need to know about beating the Shogun boss and getting the Etris Flasks in Deepwoken. He is quite a tough boss that could require you several attempts – since the patterns of moves change around so much. But keep the counters of each move in mind and you should be able to get into the rhythm. Be sure to get the Etris Flasks as well since they will help you heal during your run. There might be even more locations where you can find them – that might get revealed with time.
