Scoring lots of points and breaking previous personal records is a necessary condiment to puzzle games. They are as crucial to the puzzle genre as cheese are to pizzas—the ingredient that makes them complete. You don’t need to be a competitive player to feel good about reaching new score milestones that were previously unthinkable. That sense of accomplishment is what makes puzzle games fun!
Still, we all found ourselves at some point hitting a numerical wall even after leaving countless attempts behind. But don’t you worry! Itemlevel.net has your back. This time, we will give you some tips on how to reach Champion II—the 10k point achievement milestone.
How To Get 10K Score – Dorfromantik
Sometimes quitting is the right thing to do.
Okay, that’s quite an outrageous title for a first entry, but humor me. Do not leave yet. You have probably played countless games and noticed that sometimes, Dorfromantik gives you the most horrible starting tiles. The deck’s complete randomness can be good, bad, or a mix of both, but in some moments, it can go full turbo towards the latter.
Case in point: This four way river as your fifth tile!
—Nasty, right?
Tiles like that can come at early stages leaving you with no appropriate place to put them in, and worse, it can even lockout tile possibilities for your early setups. With so little area to play with, we cannot really put them away for isolation either. They are like little hexagons of disappointment that the tile devil has sent your way to ruin a completely smooth start!
But remember, sometimes, failure is simply the only opportunity to begin again—or in this case, quitting a session and starting a new one may be your only best shot. Don’t worry, with how completely randomized tile decks are, no one can really blame you for trying to find the perfect start.
A small tile to place for salvation
Okay, quitting games with horrible starting tiles is good and all, but don’t be too hasty on the restarts! You won’t finish anything by being an easy quitter either, silly! Although these ill-timed tiles can certainly ruin a smoothly sailing run quickly, there are times when all you need to do is the good ol’ compromise.
Perfect placing is certainly the name of the game, but the tile deck in Dorfromantik is so random it practically makes it almost impossible to find the perfect tile placement all the time. In such times, the best way to move forward is to accept small losses for a large gains.
Here’s an example:
This placement makes the right tile a perfect fit and sets up the bottom left tile for perfect tile placement by only requiring another river & stone tile combination. However, it also ruins the chance of the tile underneath for perfect placements.
What makes that a good sacrifice? Well, you have to take in account that you are unlikely to get a tile with a combination of top forest+ river center + bottom stone & plains for a perfect fit. That’s too much complexities to require!
Of course, trying to find the perfect fit does pay off sometimes, but in cases involving rivers or rails, waiting for ‘the one’ could take forever, and effectively stall the development of the area.
Quests first, Perfects later
If you’re like me, you probably have tried to perfect each and every tile placement after learning about them. I mean, who wouldn’t love to hear that chime-like sound effect with the accouterment of the word ‘Perfect’, spelled in front of our screens. But then, after countless of playing, you’ve probably stopped to think—Wait, why am I doing worse?
In Dorfromantik, perfecting all your moves from the get-go can heavily restrict your playing field and get in the way of clearing quests. Neglecting these quests, considering how essential they are in the early game, can very quickly send you to your last tile.
—Oof!
So what should it be really? Perfecting Tiles or Completing Quests?
Well, from our experience, the player should focus on the quests in the early parts of the game while trying to create as many opportunities for perfect tiles later. This allows him to gather as many tiles as possible while also creating stalling tools to help him later when completing quests becomes difficult.
The key is a perfect mix of both, or as the Mad Titan said, “Perfectly balanced, as all things should be.”
Lastly, Keep Playing.
You probably expected this, but there really is no other way really. Dorfromantik’s gameplay heavily relies on luck and the player’s foresight, and the only other way to get the latter is to get as many experience as possible.
So rack up all those playing hours, and never quit. Before you know it, you’ll reach new levels of accomplishment that you would have never imagined. And who knows, your name might be the next one to take the top of the player’s scoreboards.
