When it comes to having the ability to freely explore the ocean in Dredge, two things are guaranteed to happen without prior warning: You go insane, or you forget what you’re supposed to be doing in the first place.

Or maybe both if you’re just that unlucky!

So before either of the two thoughts start growing in the back of your head, take a breather and learn how to approach the Best Before quest differently with this here guide.

It’s pretty easy, as long as you don’t look at your own reflection in the water for too long.

Best Before Quest Guide | DREDGE

You’ve seen this set of words at the bottom of a jar or can you pick it up in grocery stores so you know that things are going to get extra fishy once you head over to Ingfell!

If you haven’t found the quest yet then head over to the Gale Cliffs and talk to the local wearing a blue dress to get started.

Choose the dialogue option with a green exclamation mark on it to ask her if she requires any assistance with anything and she’ll let you in on everything about a special meal that she’s planning on cooking for her partner.

The lady explicitly tells you that she buries eels in the ground before eating them, and you thought escargot was weird.

Anyway, she’ll keep on about how her dog keeps on digging up her food but still asks you to bring her one Conger Eel for her plans.

Sail around the area until you find pockets of bubbles on the surface, take note of the shape underneath those bubbles as they’ll help you determine whether you’re going to catch an actual eel or something that doesn’t need to take in water to take you out permanently.

Once you have a Conger Eel go back to the island of Ingell and park your boat there for a few days until the condition of the fish changes to rotten. It’s already too much to eat rotten food, let alone have sand on it so having none of that can be a bit of a silver lining for you.

Give the festering long boy back to the nice lady for a cool $150 reward.

Do all of that and you’re basically done! A literal fetch quest with a few extra steps!

Here we have Alexis, he's been gaming ever since the second Famicom came out. Which is probably the reason why he goes back to platformers every now and then. Somewhere down the line he started getting more and more fascinated about looking at maps change colors for three to eight hours straight. If he's not out strategizing and beating the life out of his space bar in that order there's a good chance you can find him playing an FPS or talking someone's ear out about how game balance gets in the way of realism. You can tell that he really likes getting the full experience of whatever he gets his hands on.
