In Dune: Awakening, the Planetologist offers unique and cool-looking abilities but stands apart from the other available classes for ONE key reason: it can’t be selected when you first create your character! Instead, players must find a specific NPC and complete a short quest to unlock this class. This guide walks you through how to locate the Trainer and complete the quest so that you can enjoy the Planetologist class as soon as possible.
How to Unlock the Planetologist Class
You can locate the Trainer, Derek Shinara, in the northern part of the Hagga Basin South region. You can find Derek on top of this mountain.
You can access his location through this path on the western side of the area.
When you speak with Derek, you’ll be given a few dialogue choices. Select the one that expresses your interest in learning from him.
Once chosen, he’ll provide you with a contract and task you with retrieving a Minimic Film from Testing Station 2. This testing station is located just down the mountain, making the quest very easy to finish.

Once you’re inside the station, keep walking inside the facility. You will reach a large circular chamber with stairs leading to a lower level. Continue onward until you enter a new hallway. On the right-side wall, look for a panel resembling a bookshelf (you’ll know you’ve found it when you see a yellow light strip).
After interacting with the panel to reveal a hidden room, you’ll find a golden briefcase on top of a round table. You can find the Minimic Film inside the case.
Finally, return to Derek Shinara and hand it over. You will automatically unlock the Planetologist class after your interaction!
With everything done, you can now enjoy leveling up as a Planetologist in Dune: Awakening! However, with this quest, you are only unlocking the base part of the class.
